Question about 2001 Chevrolet Tahoe
When under a load ,like up hills, will engine rpm increase and vehicle doesn't seem to pick up speed (engine revs but speed stays the same ) is usually a sign of slippage (burnt clutches) is fluid brown and/or foamy ? the for 4L60 was electronic version of the earlier th350 and the 4L80 was the beefier of the two being like the earlier th400 if it on it's way out and not going for a rebuild i would try and locate a 4L80 or if doing a rebuild you can build the 4L60 to handle all the same demands of the 4L80 not sure on what trans your truck has as they came with both and depending on options your truck came with (like tow package)

Run the fault codes and check for faulty sensors/ servos and solenoids in the transmission
check for faulty TCM
check oil level and condition
pull the pan and clean out the filter. If there is any metal in the pan and filter then there will be a problem in the box
If not adjust the clutch packs and bands

There is a swith on the xfer case. Do this...Key on engine off select 4wd. With a 12 volt test light go to the front axle and disconnect 4 way connector and check for power to front axle actuator (About 2 inch in diameter screws into axle on pass side) I believe wire color is brown. If you have power you have a bad acuator (unscrew from axle). If you do not have power you have a bad xfer case sw or blown fuse.

SOURCE: how do you change the
Hi, the axle has a drain plug at the bottom, removing this plug allows all old fluid to empty, put the plug back in, and tighten. fill back up with 2-3 qts of 75 synthetic weigt oil. Good luck...Coop
