2001 Nissan Pathfinder, expansion valve malfunction. How to remove evaporator/expansion valve

Evacuate all refrigerant and recycle. Disconnect the high pressure line from the EXP valve and disconnect valve. Clean surfaces and install new O rings. Reassemble. Pull a vacuum on the system and recharge with refrigerant and oil. This is NOT a DIY job.

Expansion Valve

Follow the a/c lines to the firewall. The part they are attached to is the expansion valve. Once the a/c system is evacuated the lines can be removed from the expansion valve. The expansion valve can then be removed from the EVAP core.

Where is the expansion valve located on the 2004 KIA Sedona

Kia Sedona expansion FRONT valve located under dash, behind glove box, fan and coil. Evacuate freon first. Disconnect Freon lines from firewall., Lay right front seat back to flat horizontal position and lay on top or totally remove the seat for easier working access. Remove under dash cover, fan, glove box, coil housing, remove coil mounting bolts, remove old expansion valve. (Inspect old valve, if debris inside, blow out coil before installing new valve. If visible debris best to consider replacing REAR expansion valve and DRIER/FILTER in front of radiator too and blow out all lines and coils while servicing.) Use compressor oil to lubricate "O" rings on new FRONT or REAR expansion valve, install valve bolts, reinstall coil bolts to FRONT firewall or REAR frame, reconnect freon lines to firewall in engine compartment. Evacuate AC system, install freon (35 1/2 ounces, nominal 3 pounds), check system for leaks, check for proper operation, enjoy.

Faulty expansion valve-how do I replace it? Is it absolutely necessary to have it recharged after doing this?

the expansion valve is located at the evaporator, and the system must be purged before removing it. After installation the system has to be evacuated, and usually the receiver drier should also be replaced; then the system can be recharged. This is not normally a diy job unless you have the proper manifold gauges and a vacuum pump. Also, it is fairly rare that expansion valves go bad, to diagnose your problem would require pressure readings on the high and low sides of the system.

The expansion valve for the rear ac needs to be replaced. Is this an easy thing to fix? would an evac have to be done after the valve is replaced?

Yes. System must be evacuated in order to open line to change expansion valve. After replacing valve the system must be vac tested for leaks and recharged.

Do I have to replace the old expansion devices on the A/C when installing a new compressor? Same for the old dryer?

There is no reason to replace the expansion valve unless it tested faulty (very rare). The receiver drier should be replaced any time that the system is opened, and then the system must be evacuated before recharging

Do i need to replace my expansion valve in my evaopurator of my toyota camry 2001 model in when changing the compressor

You should not have to replace the expansion valve, but you should replace the receiver/dryer. Also, cut open the old dryer and test for acids, then carefully measure the quantity of oil and replace as needed.
You will need to evacuate the system and test for leaks, before recharging.

Anytime I replace anything on the a/c sytem the expansion valve gets replaced. just a precaution. the only two things it could be are the expansion valve and the compressor. hte expansion vale not doning its job, the compressor not pumping( loosing pressure)
