Unless the car is at operating temperature , the engine rpms on start is hiogher the at run as the ECM has a higer setting for idle ( like having a choke out a bit ) until the engine checks are done and then it settles back
best run the fault codes to check for faulty sensors

back side of block under intake if its a 2.2 or a 2.3 if its a 3.0 its on the passenger side of engine bay if you turn the wheel you will be looking at it

Good news, the EGR valve for the 97 Acura was recalled. If your car is under 150,00 miles you should be eligible to get it fixed for free. I had the same problem with my 97 Acura CL 3.0. After changing the EGR valve, I found out that the vavle itself was not the problem, but rather a blocked intake manifold. Talk your local Acura dealer.

i cannot specifically point out what the problem might be, but an overheating car---never a good thing. check everything related to cooling. fans, radiator, hoses, waterpump, coolant overflow tank(see if its got a brownish color or looks like there is oil), and check your oil while your at it...
