Do you mean throwout bearing? Thrust bearings are in the engine. Then too, are you sure it's a throwout bearing that's the problem? Usually those make all kinds of noise when they're bad. I'm betting it's a pressure plate. If you're tearing into it anyway, replace the bearing, pressure plate and clutch disk all at the same time. As far as how to do it? You'll be separating the transmission from the engine for starters. How tough that is depends on the vehicle.

SOURCE: how easy is it to replace a noisy clutch thrust

The thrust bearing is normally a part of a new clutch kit.Comprises pressure plate, clutch plate and thrust bearing. You will need to remove the gear box to change the bearing. The bearing basically slides onto the gearbox shaft. Recommend changing all three rather than just the beaing. You may want to get quotes from garages as dealers are expensive.

If clutch is not adjustable then more likely to be pressure plate springs and thrust bearing(combination of both)replace whole clutch at one time.saves time later.....

The clutch in my 1983 Chevy truck rattles when I push it in

the thrust (release) bearing is worn, not a big deal in itself as it will last a long time like this, but if the noise annoys you the bearing is very cheap, though to change it means removing or pulling back the gearbox so if the clutch is not new you could replace the whole lot as easily while in there

I can't shift my small Toyota truck into any of the gears when the engine is on. If I start the truck in a gear it shudders and won't stay on and the gear is stuck.

hi, it sounds to me like the clutch and thrust bearing are up the shoot and will need replacing if your doing the work yourself then by a clutch kit as you will get the clutch ,thrust bearing and pressure plate.

Let me know how you get on or if you need further assistance ok
