Engine fault light the speedometer pointer swing without rules

There are many reasons for a car check engine light. The best thing to do is start with a code reader and see what fail codes have been saved in the engine computer. The codes will give you an idea what is wrong. Sometimes the code is only a clue. Like if it says a sensor failure it might be a bad wire or something like that.
If it starts, then Auto Zone will read the code and tell you some of the things that cause the code.

Toyaota Camry 1994 engine won't start, Engine light on

I would check for fuel,(pressure and injector pulse), spark, and compression, before checking any codes. Lack of any of these basics can result in codes, and then you waste alot of time chasing a symptom, instead of the actual problem. If more people followed basic diagnostics, which always come back to these three basics, rather than chasing codes first, they would find no starts much more quickly.

The check engine light is flash, does that mean that the motor is gone?

No. A flashing Check Engine light does not mean that the engine is gone. What this means is that you have a problem with your engine management system that will cause rapid damage to the catalytic converter if it is not corrected immediately. You most likely have a severe misfire condition and/or fuel mixture problem. You need to have your engine controller scanned as soon as possible to find the cause of the problem and get it corrected. Severe damage will result if this is not done right away.

What causes the check engine light to come on

Hi and welcome to FixYa!

The check engine lights up because the computer detects that there's something faulty. It can be something like sensor failure or it can be just time for maintenance check. This can be resolved when you have the car scanned. It will list the trouble codes and by then you will know what part is to be replaced.

Hope this helps and thank you for using FixYa! Have a good one!

On my 97 Sunfire the check engine light was staying on all the time. My scanner gave me a P0342 code. I cleaned the connection to the cam position sensor and coated the wires with insulating grease. The...

Probably the sensor. Hair line crack in sensor can cause the check engine light to come on .When the sensor gets hot it expands and causes a fault reading.

My guess on this is gonna be a cracked ignition coil. Have it tested by someone. It is very common for these coils to crack and cause a misfire.

Check Engine light goes on consistently

I would take the car to an autoparts store and have them scan the computer for codes stored. Most parts stores will do the scan for free. The check engine light is to alert you that the computer has noted a fault in one of the car's systems. A loose or faulty gas cap can cause an intermittent check engine light, but it could also be something in the evaporative emissions system that is causing it. Getting the codes should help end speculation so that the problem may be properly addressed. Sorry for your trouble and I hope this helped. Best wishes.

Check engine light comes on. 1996 Ford Taurus.

Hello, I would go to Autozone and get a free diagnostic check to see what codes are coming up in your system. Something as minor as bad O2 sensor can lead to a clogged catalytic converter in a matter of months resulting in bad gas mileage. So just for precaution I would get the codes ran just to make sure something minor won't become something major. To get the light to go off you can have a shop do it for you or you can unhook your battery for half an hour, then pump your brakes ten times and your check engine light should go off. I hope this gives you some guidance and help solves your question.
