When the brake pedal is depressed and the ignition switch is put to ON the solenoid releases the shift lever. In case of emergency there is a tiny red colored shift lock button located on the base of gear shift lever. Keep this button pressed and then take out the car of the park.
Following are some of the reasons for this problem:
- Brake switch faulty.
- Wiring.
- Gear shift solenoid.
- Transmission Control cable.

What wire could I splice into on my 1996 Toyota Corolla so that my Tach can read the RPM's from?

If the tach was an option for your corolla, it is very likely that the wiring harness in your car would have the connector for the tach. They would use the same wiring harness to cut costs, and whatever is not used would be left open on a car without a tach. You will have to find a wiring diagram to check for the tach connector-it would be up under the dash leading to the cluster. In earlier days, tachs were connected to the coil's negative side of the primary circuit.

Got spark got fuel but wont start on a 99 corolla

if you're getting air, fuel and spark - the next thing i would check would be compression in all cylinders. also, make sure the timing belt has not slipped or broken.

i had a 1996 corolla, the spark plug wires run through the top of the valve cover, pull them off and check for oil in the spark plug tubes, the seals go bad and oil leaks past the spark plugs and causes the engine to misfire

Defective tachometer and speedometer

Do the following:1)key in the ON position:remove the 7.5 gauge fuse.Tach needle should read "0:". 2)put it back,go on the engine and unplug the green plug on the igniter -the big one, with 5 or 6 wires on it.The needle on tach reading should be zero.If not you have a short circuit on the black wire between that plug and the plug on the conbination meter.3) If the reading is zero with the plug disconnected, the black wire for the tach is short-circuited inside the igniter.
