Will a 2003 engine work in a 2001 neon 2003 neon engine work in a 2001 neon if not why

The best way to tell is to get the VN numbers on both and ask a dealer repair shop;. I can say that one of the issues that you are going to have is sensors. They have changed the sensors arrays from year to year with improvements and therefore the ECM has to be changed also. You are going to be looking at block size and type and you can also get that by reading the casting numbers on the block.

Jeep block casting code 53008403

what are you doing> , buying a bare block?

why not say what is in hand. (fit what? just tranny and mounts or what? , be legal or make EFI happy, or ? all other parts on engine?)

i did a www scan and in 1 second, bam the 4 banger

not the 4 liter.

2.5L gas engine not the diesel of same size.

so...

1984 to 2002 run (all year run lenght) not an answer.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AMC_straight-4_engine

what does FIT mean.

to the mounts, the transmission, all will

pass smog

be legal, say in CALIF? (strict year codes there.... btw)

make EFI happy (fit)

just the block, short block or just a naked block. you never said./

key fact on bell housing

Instead of the standard AMC bell housing bolt pattern, AMC/Jeep engineers adopted the General Motors small V6 and four-cylinder bolt pattern

short answer, all years fit, the short block.

In 1986 the head went under a minor revision, the head bolts were increased from 7/16 to 1/2 inch.

id bet that be lowest year.

I havea 1965 pontiac with XB stamped on my engine block what size and year is this engine?

Well, according to Pontiac Power online, a 65 or 66 Pontiac engine with XB is a 389 with a 2 barrel carb, but it was used in the B body which was the Catalina and Bonneville.
A 67 engine with XB is a 400 with a 2 barrel carb.
0489308 does not show up on the list.
Casting codes from 19064 to 1968 started with 97xxxx.

LOCATION ON ENGINE NUMBER OF KIA SPORTAGE 2005 MODEL

Find the engine identification tag. Attached at the factory, this tag is normally found on the engine block around the coil bolts. The top line of the tag identifies engine size and model year.

Search the block for the engine block casting number. The numbers are raised, not stamped into the block and consist of seven numeric digits. The digits can be located on either side of the block. The seven-digit number may be followed with a dash and further numbers. These are change codes and are not normally necessary to identify the engine.

EX.:

Locate the casting date is located on the block. It is in standard date coding, 2.25.93, for example and may be located on either side of the block, but is commonly located on the driver's side of the block, above the freeze plugs. The example 2.25.93 decodes as February 25, 1993. The casting date may be near the casting clock, which designates the hour the block was cast. Magnum engines were manufactured from 1993 to 2002, so verifying the date code helps identify the engine.

1967 PONTIAC 400 cu.in. ENGINE-What is the right number head for that year engine, also can I put a 1975 crank in a 67 engine block without machine work. THANKS FRANK

Pretty skimpy info there toolbox. Which engine do you have?
In 1967 Pontiac made 326, 400, and 421 engines. They all have the same main bearing size, 3.00 inches, rod size, 2.250 inches and the same stroke, 3.750 inches.
In 75, they only made the 400 and 455. The 75 400 uses the same crank but the 455 uses the same rod size but a larger 3.250 main, and 4.210 stroke.
So any year 400 crank will fit any other year 400, 389, or 350.
Google Kauffman Racing, Wallace Racing or Pontiac Dude.

Cheers

Matt
