Clutch actuator pin seal

This is not a question this is advice, if your clutch slave cylinder goes and you decide to put a seal kit in it, LEAVE THE ROUND SEAL OUT the engine has to come out to fit a seal worth 3 quid, not like a tl or SRAD, once you put that driver in and try pop it your committed, I had to remove my flippn motor to do this, and the seal was not worn, just thought I have it ill fit it, the seal fits in a recess that is grooved don't replace if not leaking and if leaking engine out sorry

Hi AMY,Sounds like your clutch slave cylinder may be bad,check your clutch fluid in the master cylinder under the hood,if real low or empty,then the seal in the slave cylinder is bad and no holding pressure,easy to fix.here's a link to replace,it's located on the side of transmission with a hydraulic line connected to it,plus after installing you will have to bleed,I use a bleeder kit that Autozone sells for about 8.49 and it uses brake fluid,yes break fluid,the same as your brake reservoir has in it. What's wrong with my clutch if my 1998 escort won't go into gear. There is small resistance in my clutch pedal


Jamie, are you losing any fluid from the clutch master cylinder? By small resistance I presume you mean the pedal feels soft?

If you're losing fluid from the master cylinder you have an obvious leak somewhere and air is getting into the system.

Most leaks occur from the clutch SLAVE cylinder as it does all the work .. If there's no leak from the clutch slave cylinder, suspect the seals inside. It's like a bicycle pump ..the seal inside wears and it won't pump..

You may be able to get an overhaul kit. I'm in the UK .. but here's an Ebay link for a slave cylinder overhaul kit just to show you what it looks like:

It's easier and quicker to fit a new slave cylinder than it is to strip down and replace seals with a kit. Be aware, after overhauling or replacing a slave cylinder you have to bleed it - remove the air.

The easiest way of doing this is to make sure the reservoir is fill of fluid, crawl underneath the car with a spanner/wrench, place a rag over the bleed point and get somebody to pump the pedal a couple of times while you undo then tighten the bleed nut.

If it's not the slave cylinder at fault- then it's the master cylinder. Master cylinders also have a 'piston' and rubber seals which wear/perish.
However, it's more than likely that it's the slave cylinder at fault

It's leaking on the driver's side? That would be the master cylinder bolted onto the firewall. You will have to replace with a new or remanufactured clutch master cylinder. When the seals go out, the whole unit must be rebuilt. The store will give you a discount if you bring in your old one for exchange.
The clutch slave cylinder will be down on the transmission bell housing. Follow the small steel line from the master cylinder. It goes right to the slave cylinder.
Pretty easy to change out the master cylinder. Remove the steel line, unbolt unit from the firewall, then under the dash, there's a rod from the clutch pedal to the master cylinder. Just undo the retaining clip or pin holding the rod to the pedal. When the new unit is installed and filled with fluid, then you get to learn how to bleed the hydraulic clutch at the slave cylinder-the fun never stops.

How do i bleed the master cylinder on an 02 lancer


Check the slave cylinder on the transmission for leaks, and replace if it is. Bleeding:
1. put fluid in the master reservoir.
2. move the slave actuator shaft so the clutch release lever has not slack.
3. Have someone press the clutch pedal, and crack the slave bleed nipple to let out the air.

Once the slave moves the release lever, you'll be able to decide if the clutch is OK or not.

My clutch pedal one day got all loose and wouldnt get tight then i pumped it 4 five min and then it would get tight it goes back and forth between tight and loose and when loose wont go in gear and when...


Sounds like the master or slave cylinder is not right. If it gets tight when pumping it up, that's a hydraulic issue with the rubber parts not sealing, or air in the system.

Leaking fluid from the hydraulic clutch before it goes into the transmission.


Is it leaking from the clutch pipe union or the bleed screw if either just tighten them. If the seal on your clutch slave cylinder needs to be replaced either replace the whole slave cylinder or get a repair kit to refurbish the internals.

My 1994 ford rangers clutch pedal just lost all pedal


There are two types of clutch actuators. (Mechanical & Hydtraulic)
A. For mechanical type,- Check the clutch cable as
this could be cut from wear and tear. This is easy
to replace. You can find this connected to the
pedal and the clutch lever near the transmission.
B.For hydraulic operated - Check the level of the
hydraulic oil at the cylinder of the hydraulic
actuator under the hood. This actuator is
directly connected to the pushrod driven by the
pedal. If the actuator is leaking, you have buy
a repair kit (Hyraulic clutch repair kit for Ford
Ranger 1994 MOdel.) These items must be
repaired to activate your pedal.

If hydraulic actuated mechanism, loss of fluid, defective master cylinder or slave cylinder at the clutch. Missing pin or other part between slave cylinder and clutch arm. Loose or broken slave cylinder mounting. Missing pin or broken part between pedal and master cylinder. If mechanical linkage, look for broken components or missing pins at moving joints. If you tried to shift into gear with engine running, you may have damaged the transmission gears.

Clutch or master problem?


CHECK FOR ANY LEAKS STARTING AT MASTER CYLINDER THEN CHECK SLAVE CYLINDER AT G/BOX IF OK THEN BLEED CLUTCH MASTER CYLINDER OR SLAVE CYLINDER MIGHT HAVE WORN SEALS IN THEM THOUGH SO PARTS MIGHT NEED REPLACED.

have you check the slave cylinder to see if its moving when someone puts there foot on the clutch.
And check the adjustment on the master cylinder.
