P0147 O2 Sensor Heater Circuit Malfunction OBD-II Trouble Code Technical Description Article by Dale Toalston ASE Certified Technician 02 Sensor Heater Circuit Malfunction (Bank I Sensor 3) What does that mean? O2 (Oxygen) sensors contain a heating element that allows the sensor to reach operating temperature quickly. This lowers emissions since it allows the engine to reach closed loop faster and also allows the engine to stay in closed loop at idle. The heater circuit is supplied a 12 V battery feed from the PCM or ignition circuit (depending on model) and a ground. The PCM (powertrain control module) monitors how long it takes for the sensors to become active after engine start-up. If it takes too long for the o2 sensors to reach operating temperature, this P0147 can set. Symptoms For this particular o2 sensor, there may be no noticeable symptoms other than: MIL (Malfunction Indicator Lamp) illumination Poor/ rough idle Causes Potential causes of an P0147 code include: Bad o2 sensor heater circuit Bad o2 sensor Wiring harness problems Possible Solutions Unplug the Bank 1, 3 sensor. With KOEO (key on engine off) use a voltmeter to check for battery voltage present at the o2 sensor connector (PCM side). (You can also do this with a test light. Connect to ground and touch lead to heater circuit supply. Light should illuminate with KOEO) You should have battery voltage present. a. If voltage is present, check the ground side of the heater element also making sure a good ground is present. If it is, check for any faulty connections & then replace the o2 sensor. If you don't have a good ground, then there is an open in the ground circuit somewhere that will need to be repaired. Look for wiring harness contact with exhaust components or broken/missing connectors, etc. b. If battery voltage isn't present with KOEO, check for a blown fuse supplying the heater elements. You may need to get a wiring diagram for this. If the fuse is blown, you'll need to check for a short to ground on the battery supply circuit before replacing the fuse. If you find none, and replacing the fuse re-establishes battery voltage at the o2 sensor connector, then the o2 sensor may have shorted internally, blowing the fuse. Replace it & recheck. (NOTE: it's possible for an o2 sensor's heater circuit to be open/shorted and the o2 sensor to still function). c. If you have no battery voltage present with KOEO and there are no blown fuses supplying the heater circuit, then check for an open on the supply circuit. You can do this by ohming the circuit with the o2 sensor unplugged and the PCM unplugged. Repair and recheck. if you had it diagnosed and fixed all possible problems for it then the the check engine light has to be reset. You can try it manually by turning the key three or four times to the point just b 4 it starts. Then start it up. If that does not work take it to a shop and see if they can check the computer for any other possible problems (i know you can sign up for a pep boys rewards card free and they will check it for you. If all is well ask if they can reset it for you. Good luck.

CK Engine Light came on, (2006 Dodge Sprinter - 2500), mechanic found P2088 and replaced sensor. Ran check again found P 2032-02 sensor plausibility. They say oil contaminated in air charge tubes. The CK...

P2088 Dodge ,That is a cam position actuator, Not a cam sensor, Cam actuator control the cam angle, If this is ****** or advanced you'll definetly get CK ENG LT 2032, 2032 is reporting the engine condition and CK engine light is on due to a logic check, The function check has been suspended and the ECM is reporting the logic which is the condition of the vehicle, The first code was correct, P2088 that is a function failure. If there is acces to a freeze frame it will show at what MPH the vehicle was going if it is less than 40mph you can be sure the cam actuator is not advancing. Leave 2032 alone trouble shoot P2088 that is the source

Code PO147 02 heater circuit, bank 1 sensor 3 where is it located. 1996 camaro 3.8

basically it means the 02 sensor on bank 2 detected a lean condition. on v-6/ v-8/ v-10 is usually the side of the engine that does not have cylinder #1. In the vast majority of cases, simply cleaning the MAF sensor does the trick. also check vacuum lines. you can buy maf sensor cleaner at mostly all auto parts stores. just follow directions on can. check the maf sensor first.

Changed maf sensor because of p0113 code stillhave problem after i changed sensor battery light came on fixed bad belt could belt have caused the pcm to not read the 5v it needed to wor k the iat sensor?

P0113 is air temp circuit high. The maf sensor (mass air flow) sensor just measures the amount of air entering the engine. The iat (intake air temp) sensor is the one that detects the temperature of the air.
Change that sensor, and the code should disappear. It is located in the intake manifold or air plenum.

Yes, replace the MAF, then check if the lean condition goes away. It should.

MAF's are sensitive to cleaning. Sometimes it works, other times it doesn't.

P171 and p174 check engine light

Normally you can disconnect the battery for a few minutes and this does the trick. If the light comes back on, you may need to read the codes again. And, if it faults the MAF...you know it is not that and may be something else.

Check Engine Light

scan the computer again for codes. driving the car with flashing ck engine lite is damaging the valves and the cat converters. any po300,1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8 codes indicate that cyl. #misfire. most likely plugs and/or coils. if the po174 is back i would take a look at a possible vacuum leak in engine somewhere. the o2 sensor could have fixed the 153/4 but still could be more
