Sometimes the simple answer is the best. The heads up display works off a mirror that reflects the image up to the windshield. The same way it works on fighter jets. (military) The factory spring is weak at best and in high heat or cold the spring breaks. Look down through the windshield in the upper corner of the HUD and if it's swinging there's your answer.

Testimonial: "& indeed that is the case, apparently, because after looking down from above the dash-I see the HUD is still working-thank goodness. Now I have to work on fixing the spring."

My HUD went out with no explanation.

by fine you mean 32 PSI, need to be 36 PSI for most of those horrible wheel sensors. The hud is probably shot and since Pontiac is gone, good luck getting parts.

The HUD on my 2004 Pontiac Grand Prix GT went out. I checked the fuses and they are all okay. What eles could it be? Thank you, Lisa

The HUD may still be working but the spring has broken which holds the mirror to reflect the monitor image to the windscreen. Go outside the car and look straight down the HUD tunnel to see if the HUD is still on. If it is, then do a search on google for how to fix the hud. There are some very detailed instructions (with pics) to show you how to do this. Really pretty simple.

Check your fuse box to see what fuses have blown, if any. If nothing has blown fuse-wise, take it over to an AutoZone and have it diagnosed. They do it for free and even loan you out some tools to get it fixed if you can do it yourself. Good luck.

Speedometer does not work but the hud one does

Pretty common issue with the 03-06 Lesabre instrument clusters, usually they start going out when they get some miles on them. It's due to failing stepper motors on the cluster's circuit board. Check this page out for more about it and how to get it fixed - Lesabre speedometer fix

2004 GTP HUD Out

If fuse check out. All electronics fail some goes out sooner than others; Once the HUD unit its out you have to replace it unless you electronic guru know about electronics and solder, go to the junk yard and get a replacement. New unit will cost an arm and a leg. I had the same car and my went out on me 3 years after, thank GOD it was still under the warranty. wish lot of luck finding use one.

HUD will not light up

If you peek down inside the windshield, you'll probably see the HUD is working. A common issue is that the adjustment spring will break, making the HUD invisible because it is adjusted out of range. The spring can be replaced by removing the cluster then the HUD unit.

2005 grand prix HUD can only be seen when i look below steering..

There should be a switch on the dash somewhere to adjust the position of the HUD. I'm thinking it's near the driver information center (DIC). I just worked on one of these cars a week ago and I remember seeing the switch. Just can't remember exactly where but I know it's there. Hope this helps.

There is a spring inside the HUD and it has probably come off. The samething happened to mine. I had to take it out myself and fix it. Majorhassle. The dealer wanted over 600.00 to do the same.
