What are you asking
for folks to guess?
or what to do ?, , get it serviced?
or how to do tests? (scan it yet?)
or ? ask what you want for advise, and be clear.

Hi Linda, Easy things first,
Check your transmission oil under your hood look for a dipstick that looks like the one you use to check your oil. It is lower down in the front of the engine.. Pull it out and you will see red fluid on it. wipe it clean and put it back in. Start your car, put brake on and set parking brake, then shift from Park to all the gears and back to park slowly. Turn off car. Check dip stick. note level mark of fluid, wipe and replace. Start car, leave in Park and running and check the dipstick again, note level. Turn off car. If its a low reading add fluid to bring it to full. DON'T OVER FILL. From the add line to full line is one pint. So if the mark is half way between add and full you use half pint.etc

Low level could cause your problem if not have some check the vacuum modulator on the side of the tranny. Hooked up leaking etc???

If OK then take it to AAMCO for free check.

Hope this helps Mike

Could be caused by dirty or faulty solenoids.

According to Walky__Talky20: "I believe there is a way to recode the transmission for slightly different shift points. As it is, our tiptronic transmissions have a learning mode: if you drive aggressively for a bit, it will switch to the sportier shift points (delayed). If you drive all slow-like it will switch to the granny shift points (early). I believe there is a way in vag-com to recode it so it starts in the sport mode, which you may like better.

Also, I feel like I am downplaying your complaint a bit here: brushing it off as a minor preference issue with the shift points. If it is obvious to you that there is something very wrong, then my advice isn't helping (what else is new, eh?).

First thing to do is check for codes in the TCU. Next thing would be to verify proper tranny fluid level, and correct tranny fluid type." but according to Somebody5788: "It's most likely wiring to the solenoids in the transmission. Went through this on a tip Jetta. Ended up replacing a solenoid and the wiring harness internally only to find out it was part of the external harness shorting. Get it to a good shop. "

I had a shifting problem. The car would start in the wrong gear and shift at wrong times. I repaced the governor postion sensor and tranny fluid and the problem has been fixed for several years. Did you replace the tranny fluid?

Check the Trans fluid level with it running and at operating temperature. Jeep NAG1 transmissions are known to have the input electric seal leak trans fluid. Not an exspensive fix add Mopar ATF4 and then relace the guild seal.

SOURCE: My transmission in a 1999 dodge durango is not

It's your throttle kickdown cable on top of the engine and to the right it needs to be pulled out and adjusted to you find the right spot and then it will shift correctly I do believe this will fix your issues as it did mine, I have the same vehicle, also had the same issues that's how I know.

Sounds like the governer in the tail housing of the trany. is stuck. Or if it has a cable for the shiftting mechanicanism that runs to the throtel body the cable may be broken or out of adjustment.

if your driving it normal your shift points should be from 1st to 2nd=18 to 22 mph
2nd to 3rd=28 to 32mph
3rd to od=48 to 50mph

2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee shifting problem from 2nd to 3rd

Check the kick down cable. If it sticks the transmission won't shift. I sprayed WD-40 on both the top and bottom connectors , and it worked like a charm. It's alot cheaper them spending 2000 on a new transmission you don't really need.
