Just had a amp hooked up to my 98 cadillac catera and every 2 hours my battery is dead. I unhooked the amp and it's still draining the baterry. I did the altenator test and it stayed on.

You still have the hot wire going to the amp when you turn the key on or this may be a constant positive lead is the only thing completely remove the amp from the auto, just to check this problem, and most of the time when these are installed they forget to clean and tighten up the battery positive and negative leads this should be checked as well. If anything else please let me know thanks FixYa team.

Is the alternator good? If so, you are draining from somewhere else. If the amp is TOTALLY disconnected, check your starter, because an closed circuit in the starter can drain the battery really fast, and if you have had problems starting lately, that's your problem, let me know how you make out....

My 1997 catera has a battery drain, any idea where i should start looking?

A mechanic would first test the battery for a dead cell, then check each circuit on the car. We usually start with the big circuits such as lights and the alternator, and then go down the list.

1988 toyota 4runners battery drains within 1 week. Cannot locate the short? Suggestions on how to measure the leakage and locate the short.

get a amp meter. remove battery cable, hook up meter inline. with key off measure drain. you prabably have a 1/2 amp or more draw. start pulling fuses till yo find the one that lowers it to almost nothing. If you find no draw then a battery can test good and still loose a charge over a time. Unhook the battery next time and if its dead unhooked you will know

How to remove the airbag on 98 Cadillac Catera

VERY Carefully.

Fist disconnect the battery for at least a half an hour.

Second under the dash is a large yellow wire that comes out of the column and has a connection. After you have waited that half hour, ground yourself to the metal column shaft, (just grab it after you have positioned your self to find the yellow wire. Un hook the yellow wire at the nearest connection after it exits the column. Then remove the screws from the back of the bag. They are often torex bolts so have a torex set handy. pull the back out and you will see the connection under the bag.

If the bag has already been deployed, then you don't have to worry about the battery and grounding.

2001 catera drain on voltage guage-battery good-alternator new-guage at low level, one above redline-car dies either in idle or whilr driving-everything goes dead-car won't re-start-drains battery...

Yes it very well could be. Do you have a good (I mean good) battery in the car?
As well, believe it or not, check and replace the cable going from the battery to the starter and clean thoroughly the battery terminals. I fished mine out and the middle of the cable was cooked under neath wire loom. I used a #0 welding cable, about 40" long.

Repaired the K134 relay box by resoldering all the traces, replaced battery and cable, cleaned battery terminals......2 years and still wife's 01' is running strong! Before this, the wipers ran in slow motion.

Battery go dead after sitting for about 6 hours

first unhook the battery cable and wait 6 hours. If the battery is still charged when you hook it back up then start pulling fuses or relays. That car has so much electrical stuff it will take awhile to pin it down. One thing could be the seatcontrol box under the seat. It controls seat heat, power seats, memory seat. Do the power door locks work ok? A bad switch can drain the battery. How about rear leveling system. Leaky air shocks can make the pump run while the car is sitting. If you can't figure it out get a battery disconnect.

I replaced 2 alternators in my 2000 catera...only when it rains does the car not start..the battery is dead as a door nail...can someone help?

Make sure the car is not draining the battery while parked and shut off.
Place a meter across the battery, it should read 12 volts when charged up.
Start the car and it should climb to and read 14 to 14.5 volts. If it doesn't, then the alternator is bad.
