Question about Cars & Trucks

1 Answer

The gears, park reverse drive, on 2000 Malibu stop working when the car warms up. When I shut the car off and restart works again only for a few mins. Fluid is ok. So what could be causing this?

There are several things on the inside or the transmission that can cause this. Have the codes read. Probably over due for a rebuild.

Sounds like a bent fork in the transfer case. It is a common problem with your truck. The transfer case is a np236. If it just recently started doing this, the rebuild will cost around $800. If the 4wd has been acting up for a while, the planetary will probably need changed, which is another $200.

You need to replace the TCC solenoid under the side cover pan of the transmission. You can also unplug the wires that go to the transmission in the front. After that it will not go into overdrive but it will stay running at stop lights untill you have it repaired.

Hi,
Get your Automatic Transmission Fluid (ATF) checked, it could be old or low. May be time for Transmission flush, too.

1998 malibu won't shift into gear when cold outside but, works fine in warm weather, why?

you need a transmission fluid and filter changed.because if filter stopped up.transmission fluid little thicker in cold climate make it hard circulate through filter.when engine and fluid get warmer fluid get thinner where it can circulate through filter cause transmission to shift correctly.
