Not automotive related, but a "rod" is a unit of measure. 1 rod is 16.5 feet. So 12 rods is 198 feet long.

I have a 2001 cadilac deville that has a wicked knock in the engine. it is a rod knock (from the sound) so i figure my options are to change the engine, or change the rod ect. I wanna know if the engine...

Thats going to be a tricky pull. you can actually do BOTH methods fro pulling that motor. Which ever is easier for you would be better.

As far as the rod knock. Rod knock simply means that the rod bearing has spun and is no longer a smooth surface. potentially, you could pull the motor and replace just that rod and bearing if the crankshaft was unaffected. the majority of the time, more work needs to be done. I think in this case, it may be cheaper to remove the motor and replace the crank and bearings. A replacement used motor will probably run about 1k if you can find one at a yard.

Codes for 91 GMC suburban. what does the code 12 mean

If you mean the flash once and then twice flash code, That means the computer is good as far as being able to read codes. That's it. If you had any stored troub;e codes you would get the code 12 three times and then any stored codes would come after that. they also show up 3 times and then go to the next code if there are more then 1 codes stored. I hope this helps and good luck.

Need to replace brake power booster on 1992 buick limited with AB

Heres a way to save you a lot of time. remove the two bolts that hold the master cylinder to booster, leave all brake lines connected, pull master away as far as it will go, you may have to pull on the line some, next go inside and remove the pin to remove the rod from brake pedal, you can let brake switch stay, back to booster, remove vacuum line from booster, back inside the car remove the 4 nuts that hold the booster to firewall, make sure rood is clear, go out and pull booster out and remove, install new booster make sure rod hooks to pedal before bolting it up, because sometimes the rod may go in the wrong direction, reverse directions to install, when your done theres no need to bleed brake system. hope this helps.

My Pontiac Bonneville has a popping noise when i hit a bump i think its the tie rod ends i don't know if its inner or outer. How can i tell what the problem is and how hard it is to fix.

does it kinda sound like two peices of metal striking each other? most likely the outer tie rod end. the inner tie rod end wouldnt make a sound anything like that, it would snap and you wouldnt be able to steer the car very well.....regardless, this is easy to check. remove the wheel. the object directly behind your brakes is the wheel hub, directly behind the wheel hub is the steering knuckle. connected to the steering knuckle you should find the strut up top, a control arm on the bottom, the sway bar attaches towards the front of the car, the outer tie rod end connects to the hub on the side closest to the rear of the car. connected to the outer tie rod end is the tie rod, which is then connected to your power steering rack and pinion via the inner tie rod ends. you want to locate the outer tie rod end and examine it visually. is the rubber cracked, torn, or missing? if so, replace the outer tie rod end. you will need a 2 jaw puller to remove the old tie rod end, but removal and installation is EASY (i taught my wife how to do it in 5 minutes and she did it successfully in less than 10). depending on how far the jam nut is moved when replacing the tie rod, you may need an alignment after replacing it. if the rubber on the tie rod end looks fine, the noise is probably coming from the strut. when the struts are worn out, the strain of the vehicle bouncing is put on the coil over springs. after a while, the spring can become worn out as well.....this would create a "clunking" sound when going over bumps.....and, if the spring wears out too much, you MIGHT be able to hear a metalic popping sound when the struts reach the damper if the spring hasnt expanded that far yet (this is extremely unlikely tho, more likely than not, the spring would crack/break LONG before you hear this noise and the car would be close to undriveable......). regardless, out tie rod ends are roughly 12-15 bucks each and extremely easy to install. you might be able to find a parts store willing to loan you a 2 jaw puller, but if not they generally run 30-35 dollars....DO NOT ATTEMPT THIS REPAIR IF YOU DO NOT HAVE A REPAIR MANUAL THE LISTS THE CORRECT TORQUE SETTING FOR THE TIE ROD ENDS. if the bolt isnt torqued propperly, a) your alignment will be off and b) you run the risk of snapping the new tie rod end.

Where are the high and low pressure ports for the ac on a 1990 f150 sraight six

To find the ports, you will have to follow the high and low lines from the compressor, usually not far away, and indicated with red and blue caps on the scrader valves. The low pressure line is bigger in diameter than the high pressure line. You need to know which refrigerant is being used in this system as it could be the old R-12, which was banned. Could also be an R-12 system converted to R-134a with different high and low ports.

Sunburn 1994 handle wont work

Yes, Usually If you pull inside the lock area incorrectly, it will cause the rod to detach from the door latch. The door panel will have to come off and the rod, located and reattached. The retaining clip probably is damaged so inspect it and you should be able to find a replacement at NAPA or local dealership.
