It should purge right away after replacing the pigtail connector. These are notorious for leaking at the fuel line to fuel rail connection in which case it would only be about 20 bucks for a splice kit. Then you need a heat gun to splice it.

Fuel pump wiring for aftermarket GM fuel pumps

When replacing fuel pumps in chevy or gmc trucks and suv's the aftermarket fuel pumps come with new plug and wire connectors. Which requires you to cut off the old pigtail and connect the new pigtail to the vehicles wiring, the reason the manufacturers of the new fuel pumps did this is to fix problems with the old style connector that was on the factory unit.

Hard to start 1997 4.3 but after it starts it runs great

It sounds as if the fuel is taking a while to get to the engine possibly. A cracked purge canister could be the culprit, usually located right behind the headlight on the passenger side of the vehicle depending on the vehicle. It could be as little as a loose vacuum line but as bad as a weak fuel pump or failing injectors. Check for the vacuum lines first... A way to determine if its fuel related is to turn the key into the on position then off and then back on, do not attemp to start the engine yet, rrepeat this three to five times waiting a few seconds inbetween on/off intervals then attempt to start the vehicle. This is to give it time to build preesure from the fuel pump to the injectors. If it still hasitates to start its likely not fuel related. How long has it been since it has had a fuel filter change or tune up? Its possible for this to be fuel or firing related, but you said it runs fine after it starts so I figure its feul related. It seems the fuel is draining out of the line which lead to me thinking it may be the purge canister or a vaccum that may be running to the purge canister itself. Let me know what you find or dont find and I will attempt to help you further. Good Luck!

How much is a tune up for a 1999 for a ford escort

In theory you could just change the 4 spark plugs for $20.
Put it costs more is you do all the filters, the PCV, check the EGR and purge valve, check any codes, check transmission fluid, etc.
