I always recommend getting rid of the TV. It frees up so much time to do really cool things! But to your point, if the smell is of "warm" electronics it is relatively harmless. If it smells acrid, then keep an eye on it. Seriously though, I wouldn't have an infant in the same room with a television. They don't need all that stimulus. What they do need is floor time with interesting objects they can play with. This exploration period is so important for their development! You made a career choice by having kids and my best advice is to put the needs of the little one way ahead of the convenience of television. Been there.
