2002 rav4 2.0; when engine is hot doesn't idle and give hard start: tps,GDI,egr,fuel pump,spark plugs and coil are all okay..when its cold first key the engine is fired up

Air Idle valve may be clogged with carbon/gum this makes the valve stick and wont idle properly, may not show up on diagnostics! valve needs to be removed from behind engine and cleaned with carb cleaner, (you will need to buy a new gasket for refitting the valve as it will break when you remove it)

Crank sensor , cam sensor , temp. sensor , Need to have a diagnostic scan tool hooked up ! one that can read engine sensor data !

i have a mitsubishi pagero exceed gdi v6 3500cc it stall the engine and responde well while cold but on load it starts to die. somebody told me to replace the fuel enjection pump, but i don´t know where to buy. will that solve my problem.
please help me on that.

I have a 99 Nissan altima and it shuts off while driving and sometimes have a hard time starting back up. I've changed the fuel filter, fuel pump and spark plugs.


Nevr change things til u kno cure. Cud hav a vacuum leak like a bad egr valve. Distributer cap may b worn inside or the plug wires. Idle air or tps mite b worn. A component is gittn hot from age n needs to cool

Hard to start at times hot or cold


engine wont start cold or hot could be fuel problem.check for fuel or spark.try doing little troubleshooting make sure sparkplugs and wires good condition.fuel filter been changed.engine need fuel and spark ignition to run.turn ignition on listen for fuel pump operation in fuel tank if no check fuel pump fuse and relay.if fuse relay okay.problem could be the fuel pump but first use code scanner look for PCM, CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR,CAMSHAFT SENSOR AND DISTRIBUTOR IGNITION FAULT CODE.MAKE SURE YOU HAVE FUEL INTANK I SEEN THAT HAPPEN BEFORE.

okay, that info is helpful i would have said a coil test but okay with a new distributor it should be good, lets look at the egr valve, with a cold engine start it up and feel the egr tube, this tube feeds exhaust to intake, it should not get hot right away, if it does then egr is open causing misfires, also remove vacuum line from the egr valve just in case it is a bad vacuum solenoid , there should be no vacuum to this vacuum hose with cold engine at idle. let me know the out come.

2002 ford taurus hesitats fills like missing computer code say egr sensor changed it but still does it engine light on. fills like lossing spark at all speeds but idle how do you check coil out put? worse...


Find a shop that does scope meter testing. They will be able to give you coil's output.
You may have a faullty plug wire . Take a spray bottle full of water spray it on spark plug wires and see if the engine decreases in idle. If so you need new wires.

With regards to eng lite. have ECU scanned again may be a different code. Autozone does this free of charge.
Did you clean out the carbon on the EGR passage before you put new EGR in?

Check to make sure you're getting power to the coil when the key is turned. You may need a new ignition switch.

I have a 2002 chrystler twn n country.one day it started to idle really rough so i changed the fuel pump,spark plugs, new wires, and fuel filter.still idles erratically and stalls when you goose it.also...


From the Fuel End: check the power at each individual fuel injector. If that checks out okay: Pull and check (and replace if needed) the fuel injectors. These could be clogged or malfunctioning.
From the Electronic End: disconnect and check the Electronic Ignition Coil Pack for continuity and consistent Spark. This should have been checked first as a rough idle could be caused by this.

have you replaced coil pack? Check EGR passage through upper mainfold and make sure clean. also make sure EGR valve not stuck part way open. Also check crank and cam sensors along with MAF.

How can i tell if my ignition is going bad i can crank it over but as soon as i start to drive it shuts it self off


First, make sure all your ignition components test out good; ignition coil, spark plugs, plug wires, power transformer, and even your alternator and battery.

Next, check your fuel system; fuel pump, fuel filter, fuel pressure regulator, and even your fuel injectors. Many times a clogged fuel filter can cause idling and hesitation problems. Also check for any restricted air passages starting from your air filter, all the way to your throttle body and EGR valve.ry checking the tps sensor (throtle positioning sensor). if the tps sensor is not working right when the engine warms up the tps sensor will not allow the fuel pump to pump as much as it needs to keep the engine running. The reason it only happens when the engine warms up is because the throttle is chocked when the engine is cold so it does not take as much gas to run it.
