SOURCE: charging system

The regulator pack on the alternator has given up, some call it the brush pack also, the regulator is about £10, you will need to rmove the alternator to replace the reg pack, easy job, once fitted with the engine running check the voltage, should be 14.2 volts.

SOURCE: i have charging system problem on my 2006 toyota

your battery could have a dead cell and still register 12 volts when not running,, if your getting 13.67 volts on the posts with the car running, the alt is fine,, but the battery is faulty,, take it and have it load checked, that way you can be sure it has the amperage that its supposed to have,

SOURCE: servicing battery charging system.

Check the battery terminals for cleanlyness and tightness.
Check the voltage when stopped, it should be 12 volts.
Check the voltage with the motor running, it should be 14 volts. If not the alternator is not charging.
If the battery voltage is low then it may need replacing.

Sometimes the car won't start and the dash lights and the radio lights flicker

Best place to start is the positive lead on the battery . Remove the lead and clean battery pole and terminal using sand paper until you have shiny syrfaces. Replace the lead and tighten the terminal . Check the battery for charge condition as what you describe indicates a flat battery

My battery ligth is on an car won't start

The battery light indicates the cars alternator is no longer suppling voltage to the car and charging the battery, so the battery has gone dead.

96FORD T-BIRD WONT START

First you need to find out where the problem is! Basically, you divide it up to three categories. Charging/starter; fuel system and engine. You need to start with the charging/starter category. Even if the engine turns over when you are trying to start the car suggest you try a jump start. If it won't start when you are jump starting it, then it probably isn't the battery or alternator but still could be the starter. If it DOES start, then the problem is either you battery or alternator or cables.
Depending on what your indications are depends on what you need to do to narrow down the problem.

2001 mercury sable will run but won't charge and no batttery indicator light in dash will not light

If it runs you have one of 2 issues. 1. The battery is bad and the alternator isn't able to keep it charged (you will have to jump start it every time the motor is shut off). 2. Your alternator is bad and the battery is running the car (when battery is drained car will stop running) which is my belief as the battery light only comes on when the alternator isnt charging. Have the charging system tested at your local AutoZone/Advanced Auto parts store they normally do it for free.

The battery light and engine light come on when i try to start the car and it wont stay running, the battery is new and i tried jump starting

Hello and welcome to FixYa!

If the battery light is on, I strongly suggest that you have the battery charged. It can be an indication of a weak battery or a faulty alternator. If the battery light still on after charging then the problem will surely be on the alternator itself. If that's the case the alternator should be replaced to resolve the problem.

If the battery won't hold charge even on a new alternator then the problem will be on the battery itself. It surely is in the end of it's service life and replacement will be necessary.

You may try to reset it to by removing the positive battery connector, letting it sit for at least 5mins. then reconnect it again. This will reset the system and can get the battery light off.

Hope this helps and thank you for using FixYa! Have a good one!
