I guess your engine had jumped valve timing due to broken plastic chain tensioners/slipper pads, common problem. are you sure you have got the valve timing right? not easy to do without the special tools. the compressions are to low they should be 165 psi minimum. you could have valve damage. if your engine had the old plastic tensioners then it is more than likeley to be one of engines with nicosil coated cylinder bores which wear out quickley. which will give low compression readings, recheck your valve timing first. you need a crankshaft timing tool which fits in place of the crankshaft position sensor on the flywheel housing and 2 camshaft locking bars to fit over the 2 camshafts on each bank.it is critical to get it right, hope this helps.

SOURCE: 2001 S Type Jaguar ABS and Traction Control fault lights on

Hi First I suggest that you get a diagonostic check on ABS system. and then a visual inspection of the brakes. Warped brake rotors do not make noice, but the steering will start to judder when brakes applied at around speeds from 40 up . Possible cause that the vehile picked up something from road such as nylon/ plastic/stone Mike

SOURCE: I have a 2001 Jaguar S Type 3.0l that had a P0430

PO430 = Catalyst System Efficiency Below Threshold (Bank 2) You may still have a sensor fault in the combustion/injection system, You need to get this checked at a garage with the correct monitoring system for while the engine is running. Or take a gamble and change sensors. Hope this helps - good luck.

I have vx ss v8 2001.i was driving along was doing around 100 droped back gear missed second hit first the car just did compression lock up ,now it is running rough and is back firering bad ?

have a compression test done to check for valve problems. Check timing belt timing. At a 100 and getting 1st gear the rpms would have been well outside max permissible and you would have been luck to get it in gear

Jaguar runs there cylinder numbering different then the north american engines. They go from 1-2-3-4- front to back and bank 1 and bank 2. Bank one is on the passenger side and bank 2 is on the drivers side. This is the s type DOHC V8 (AJ28) engine for your car. 106038346.gif

Check all your fuses first as it sounds like you shorted something out, did you turn the jag off before connecting the jump leads, if you did you will be ok but if you did not it is more than likely a fuse.
hope thishelps

The Jaguar v8 does not have a rocker arm or push rods, this is an overhead cam type engine.
4 cams on top of the heads which are driven by the timing chains, which are driven off the crank.
If your noise appears from the lower end, the most common issue is a main bearing in which case the car will need an engine. (the bearings go bad due to lack of oil circulation, the oil pick up tube in the oil pan gets clogged)
If the noise is upper and the car seems to run rough then the upper timing chain tensioner has broken and the chain has jumped causing the timing to be off.
If you start the car and you have a bad upper noise then the chain could be broken and by running the car you definitely will have valve damage.

2001 Jaguar S-Type 3.0

I own an '01 S-Type and have had to many problems to list, however 3 months ago mine started riding rough, the check engine light actually started blinking and it shook pretty bad especially at stop lights (although it didn't shut off) I drove it straight to the shop and they said it was a bad ignition coil (coil #4) - $135 total and it ran fine. 2 months later coil #5 went. I was advised that if you take it to the dealer they will replace all 6 ignition coils at once charging you over $1,000. They are only about $60 a part stores. Good Luck I'm getting rid of my Jag this week! What a pain in the neck beauty!
