Unscrew the cable from the transmission. if you can`t unscrew it,unbolt the lock bolt that holds the little bar which keeps the speedometer cable in place and remove the speedometer driven gear assembly from the transmission. the gear is plastic and is what the cable is driven by.

Accessing the speedometer cable to lubricate on 1990 F-150

You can do it one of 3 ways...
a. Remove the Instrument Cluster from in front of the wheel, Lubricate
b. Remove the Cable from Under the dash and Lubricate
c. Remove the Cable from the Transmission and Lubricate.

Removing BOTH ends and cleaning first from Pressure TOP to Transmission is highly recommended and injecting a Light Lithium Grease I have found to give the best results but if you are having a problem with the Speedometer Cable itself... They are inexpensive and easy to replace. That is what I would do if it was making noise.. Less than $30 for a new cable

Trying to remove light and washer wiper knobs from 1001 Ford F150.

Headlight knobs are attached to a long stem into rueastat switch (dash light dimmer ) push the small button spring loaded of headlight switch behind dash panel. Knob with stem will come out. Careful not to turn on headlights & run battery dead.
Wiper knob has a release tang behind knob push up tang with a small screw driver ( pocket type flat ) or look for a small set screw on knob
Speedometer cable may be broken, loose from dashboard connection, loose from transmission or broken cable gear in trans. Not sure when ford swicthed to magnetic sensors. Possible lost pick up sensor on drive shaft

'91 F150 5L - My speedometer needle continually moves all over the dial while driving - sometimes bottoming out and then back. Is this a cable problem? How difficult would this be to do myself? ...

It should not be difficult, first remove the cable attachment from behind the speedo and pull the iner cable out. It may be frayed or at least dry. Clean it and smear it liberally with grease before re-inserting it. This should solve your problem. If it does not, you will have to replace the cable as a complete unit. Trace the cable to its other end and disconnect it from the transmission, loosening off any clamps along the way. Fit the new one in the opposite order you removed the old one.

1992 ford f150 speedometer quit working and ABS light is on, also odometer is not working

where the speedometer cable goes into the transmission under the car, when removed from the trans there is a small gear that gets worn out over time.. that little gear or the entire speedometer cable needs to be replaced. An easy and inexpensive fix. I believe the ABS light is on because the computer needs the speed of the car to make its calculations for braking. As long as the speedometer is not working, it cannot do that. So after the speedometer cable issue is fixed, that issue should be fixed as well.

F150 Speedometer issue

This is your speed sensor. Now i do not know if this is going to be cable driven or electrical because they used both in 95. Your local auto parts store will tell you exactly what kind is in your truck. I just changed one friday on a 94 ford escort and it was electrical. The part was around 20 dollars for the speed sensor.

Speedometer works and stops working intermittently. I don't know how to unplug to clean the contacts

This vehicle 1990 does not have a digital speedometer correct.?
The cable runs from the output shaft of the transmission to the rear of the speedometer.
Therefore either the cable is defective ,speedometer itself or the gear it works off of in the transmission.
This could be fustrating especially if you determine its the gear on the outputshaft.( have to remove transmission from vehicle to repair it) Take the vehicle to transmission shop they do this in there
sleep.
