Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) Inoperative
Refer to Engine Control Schematic Power, Ground, MIL and Data Link .
Circuit Description
There should be a steady MIL with the ignition ON and the engine not running. Ignition feed voltage is supplied directly to the MIL. The Powertrain Control Module (PCM) turns the MIL ON by grounding the MIL control circuit. No MIL with the key ON, engine not running and the MIL DTC set suggests an open in the MIL control circuit.
Diagnostic Aids
Inspect the following items:
?€¢
If the engine runs OK, inspect for a malfunctioning MIL, an open in the MIL control circuit, or an open in the instrument cluster ignition feed.

?€¢
If the engine cranks but will not run, inspect for an open PCM ignition or battery feed or a faulty PCM to engine ground.

Many situations may lead to an intermittent condition. Perform each inspection or test as directed.
Loose terminal connection

-
Use a corresponding mating terminal to test for proper tension. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections , and to Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems for diagnosis and repair.

-
Inspect the harness connectors for backed out terminals, improper mating, broken locks, improperly formed or damaged terminals, and faulty terminal to wire connection. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections , and to Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems for diagnosis and repair.

?€¢
Damaged harness--Inspect the wiring harness for damage. If the harness inspection does not reveal a problem, observe the display on the scan tool while moving connectors and wiring harnesses related to the sensor. A change in the scan tool display may indicate the location of the fault. Refer to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems for diagnosis and repair.

?€¢
Inspect the powertrain control module (PCM) and the engine grounds for clean and secure connections. Refer to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems for diagnosis and repair.

If the condition is determined to be intermittent, reviewing the Snapshot or Freeze Frame/Failure Records may be useful in determining when the DTC or condition was identified.

your gas cap light told you of a seal leak at the fuel tank. check all other line connections to the fuel tank the make sure they are tight. could also be a fuel pump losing pressure

My 2000 grand prix starts up and run then it dies out when i take foot off the gas paddle could u please help me

change the fuel filter , it could be more than that , but that's a first check made by any mechanic, it could be that the fuel pump itself isn't keeping the pressure required up so the car just quits, I don't know which motor you have, but some came with a idle control sensor that may not be working correctly. All of those are in the fuel section of the problem,, on the electrical end, you could need a new distributor cap,, and rotor, maybe even plugs, depending on how many miles since your last tune up , If its possible to drive the car, take it to one of the places in your town that does OBD code checks for free,, look around because some shops charge a crazy amount for this simple check,, but I have always found shops that will do it for free,, once you get the codes checked, if you post the codes here on this reply, I would be able to narrow down your problem

Can I take a super charger out of a Grand Prix GTP and fit it on my Grand Prix GT 3.8L V6?

Well, the short answer is "yes". But - it isn't nearly as simple as just bolting the supercharger onto the intake and VOILA!, now you're supercharged. The procedure that you're inquiring about is commonly referred to as a "top swap", and there are numerous parts you will need for both engine as well as the transmission. Why the transmission? Because the GT and GTP use different gear ratios and the GTP has a 4T65HD as opposed to the 4T65E that is in the SE/GT. You will also need to have the PCM reprogrammed to accomodate all of these changes.

HERE is a great website that has a ton of very useful information, regarding this and many other Grand Prix topics.

Hope this helps and thanks for using FixYa!

2000 Bettle won't connect to smog machine.

The term "flash" has to do with the on board OBD2 computer flash memory. New software updates or sometimes performance tuning will be programmed to "flash" this memory effectively changing certain preset values such as ignition timing and air/fuel tables. Most cases i have experience with are for the performance market but have been developed in accordance with factory guidlines.

Service engine light on

By using a scanner only. Older cars you could disconnect the battery and it would reset but with obd 2 cars that doesn't work.
