How do i lock in my 4wd on my 1989 jeep cherokee?

They shouldn't have any amnual hubs in the fornt axle. You simply have to shift into "4HI" position and its locked in. Some have a part time 4WD position but its not locked in 4WD all the time. Older models you had to turn a lever on both front wheels to lock. Some models its a switch on the dash to engage not a lever in the floor.

How to put a 95 or 96 jeep cherokee sport in 4 wheel drive. handle is left of the gear shift.

You can change on the run but as a general rule stop to change to 4wd.except 2wd to 4wd high.Just slow down to about 15mph and back off the gas.
2wd high is normal running
4wd high(is full time 4wd)this is slippery roads or muddy roads.
4wd high lock For bad and slower slippery and rocky roads.
4wd low lock is for extreme 4wd conditions
Don't use the last 2 on the main roads or transfercase will be damaged
Hope this helps

How do you shift to 4wd 99 wrangler

You can shift on the fly...as you are moving....into 4WD at speeds up to 40 MPH but simply grabing the 4WD selector and moving into the 4WD high gear. Low gear selection should be done at a stand still, with transmission in neutral position before proceeding in fwd. The low position is a "granny gear" that is for extreme situations where high 4WD will not suffice or get you out of a stuck situation.

1987 Ford Ranger stuck in 4 wheel drive!!

Chances are the linkage for the transfer case is out of adjustment try loosening the adjuster bolt and put the 4WD shifter into the position 4WD high or low (depending upon which position it's lockup in) then lock down the adjuster bolt, try to shift out of 4wd sometimes you need to go forward and backward with the vehicle to get it out of 4wd, when you get it out of 4wd you may have to fine tune the adjustment to get it to engage and disengage smoothly it's a trial and error thing keep resetting adjuster until you get the desired effect.
