What can you tell me about why my Ford Explorer1996won't crank? It all started when my brake light wouldn't turn,so I put another one on then then thing wouldn't crank and that been almost two mons.

You changed the brake light switch ? not sure i am understanding your post completely but try starting in neutral

    OkAY Jason I tried it in neutral and nothing but that chunking sound man I need help bad I'm trying not to let a mech. work on it I've already spent about 1,00.00 dollars already fixing the water pump and the housing so if you can "HELP"

    Put a socket and bar on the crankshaft bolt and see if you can turn it by hand. You may have overheated it and killed it.

OOPS dealer only ,Try opening and closing door lock three times drivers side 10 sec interval between clicks then try starting if no go then dealer only

SOURCE: Have 2002 Ford Explorer. Wouldn't crank, changed plugs and did tune-up, replaced fuel filter. Ran fine few days then wouldn't start again. Replaced battery, store said I had bad cell. Cranked

Your alternator might be bad also, or the crank sensor

Wow, you're all over the page with this request! :)
By saying "wont crank up or get in gear" I need to know, when you turn the key to start, does it in fact make the engine crank?
Make sure the shifter, if automatic, is all the way up into park.
Make sure battery is fully charged. Battery terminals are clean and tight.
Then turn key to on, not start yet. Are lights lighting up on instrument panel? Yes? No?
Try these things and let us know what you have.

Ford Tauras wont crank over....
The signal to the starter solenoid depends on a switch on the brake pedal lever. Chances are your foot has moved or broken this switch. Check to see if your brake lights work.

You can also put a Voltmeter on the small wire on the starter solenoid to see if voltage is present when you turn the key to the START position.

My 2007 dodge charger didn't crank so I jumped it
A battery from 07 is still decently new to be that bad, but I would check the alternator first, just get the car running and unhook the positive cable from the battery, if the car dies the alternator is bad.

Both brake lights out on my 94 ford ranger. What could be the problem?
I would check the brake light switch that is located on the top of the brake pedal. While the brakes would work, the brake lights wouldn't.

need more information, does it crank, and not start? Or no crank? If it cranks and does not start, the first suspect would be a crank sensor, they do that...if it does not crank, the battery has to be charged first to get it to crank-we can go on from there...

Column shifter would not shift. Brake lights aren't working due to blown fuse. When trying to replace the fuse the fuse gets real hot and melts.
you have a short circuit in the brake light circuit or the shift interlock circuit.

Look under the dash at the switch on the brake pedal arm and see if it is burned looking or the wiring is frayed and shorting out.

For emergency, there is an over ride for the shift interlock so you can get car to a shop. Look up shift interlock in index of owner manual for over ride procedure.

I think you turn key to OFF position, step on brake, and pull shifter into neutral. Start car in Neutral, put in gear, drive away.

Remember, you have no bake lights.

Also, check brake light bulbs and sockets in tail lights. A bulb or socket could be shorted.
