2005 Frenza, Daewoo wonder box, and no engine of the 5 stated
Deawoo can sell them in usa so suzuki tried and failed too.... sad.
now that is a challenge. (like doing a cross word puzzle, cut in half.)
no, you do what the SUzuki fsm states.
the factory service manual.
there are test to do, the ECU does not have AI yet.
it takes a tech, to do test to find cause, a live human still.

the key to codes is to learn what the test does first
and how it fails, what did the ECU see at the failure.
this is called critical thinking, knowing that some tests
that failed are really caused by the other failures.

my online source fails to list 488s. sorry.
if that really is a EGR test.
there are many ways it can be done,
vacuum drop ( can be other failures disturbing vacuum and egr is ok)
EGR pot resistor, read back failed.?
EGR coils shorted or open. checks.
EGR map sensor , reads wrong. (lots of causes and tests)
or the EGR paths are blocked the exhaust path..

so read the manual, i dont have,,im not popping 4bucks for you.

even bouncing vacuum can make EGR fail.
lots of causes.
if i had the FSM print out on 488s, i can state all tests to find true cause.

2005 Suzuki Forenza, check engine light is on with fault codes reading P0488 and P0496. Can't get a good explanation of what the cause may be. Any insight would be greatly appreciated.


code P0488 exhaust gas recirculation closed valve pintle error ( EGR Valve ) most likely replace the valve.

code P0496 evaporative emission system continuous purge flow. could be many things, Gas cap, purge valve , purge canister, probably need to have this one check by the dealer.

P0403 - Exhaust Gas Recirculation Circuit Malfunction

Causes for DTC P0403:
- Harness or connectors (EGR volume control valve circuit is open or shorted.)
- EGR volume control solenoid valve
- EGR temperature sensor and circuit

I have a 02 malibu throwing code po403 egr flow circuit malfunction i have replaced the egr sensor and checked that the intake tube that feeds the egr valve and it is not clogged. I don't know what to do...


Read this it might helpCIRCUIT DESCRIPTION
The powertrain control module (PCM) monitors the exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) valve pintle position input to ensure that the valve responds properly to commands from the PCM. The linear EGR valve is controlled by using an ignition positive driver and ground circuit within the PCM. The driver has the ability to detect an electrical malfunction in the ignition positive or ground circuit. If an electrical malfunction occurs, the driver signals the PCM to set this DTC.

CONDITIONS FOR RUNNING THE DTC
^ The engine is cranking or running.
^ System voltage between 9-18 volts.

CONDITIONS FOR SETTING THE DTC
^ The PCM detects an electrical malfunction in the EGR high control circuit or in the EGR low control circuit.
^ The condition is present for more than 20 seconds.

ACTION TAKEN WHEN THE DTC SETS
^ The control module illuminates the malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) on the second consecutive ignition cycle that the diagnostic runs and fails.
^ The control module records the operating conditions at the time the diagnostic fails. The first time the diagnostic fails, the control module stores this information in the Failure Records. If the diagnostic reports a failure on the second consecutive ignition cycle, the control module records the operating conditions at the time of the failure. The control module writes the operating conditions to the Freeze Frame and updates the Failure Records.

CONDITIONS FOR CLEARING THE MIL/DTC
^ The control module turns OFF the malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) after 3 consecutive ignition cycles that the diagnostic runs and does not fail.
^ A current DTC, Last Test Failed, clears when the diagnostic runs and passes.
^ A history DTC clears after 40 consecutive warm-up cycles, if no failures are reported by this or any other emission related diagnostic.
^ Clear the MIL and the DTC with a scan tool.
