sounds like you may have a problem with your Idle air control valve, located on the throttle body. this is what controls the idle when coming to a stop or stopped and turning corners or basically when your foot is not on the gas pedal

most common thing to go bad is the idle air control valve. will cause they problems. will not set a code. will run like **** at idle. but fine when moving. it is located on top of the intake where the air filter hose meets the intake. looks like a silver cylinder about 3 inches long. if you change, have the fuel injection cleaned at a shop. will remove any carbon build up from over the years. best of luck

If you don't have a check engine light, Start with the air and fuel filter, work your way up to a tune up. Clean the throttle body as best you can on the inside, behind the throttle plate/s

sometime this will happen if the throttle blade idle hole gets plugged with carbon. if you take off the air inlet tube off the throttle body and look into the throttle body you will see a round looking flat disk , you will see a small hole in it .about the size of a stir stick straw .this hole gets plugged with carbon and will effect the idle.it calibrated to let the right amount of air in the engine @ idle.if you clean this there is a good chance this will fix your problem . be careful what cleaner you use as some of the throttle blades are coated with a Teflon coating(local parts store will have the proper throttle body cleaner for these ford throttle bodies )
