This question sure depends on make and model car , rear drive cars can usually be done without removing the engine from car in less than a day , but most front wheel drive cars no way you can access it while engine is in car this makes it a two day event , I do question ? why you think you need a new oil pump ,U know if engine ran more than a few minutes without proper oil pressure , its sure to be well worn out internally , id sure be looking real carefull for metal bits in oil that's drained from car , coffee filters are perfect for this task , most times this requires a engine swap !!

COST OF OIL CHANGE, DISTRIBUTOR CAP, SPARK PLUGS AND STARTER

oil change = 39.95 w/coupon (jiffy lube) +10 for filter

starter cost= 105$ plus an 1.5 hr labor to install + 15$ core charge
cap/wires/plugs = 110$ plus hour of labor to install
labor is typically 90 to 110 an hour

yes cars are expensive to maintain

its allways a good idea for one to develop a trusting relationship with there autos mechanic , if you don't feel you can trust them you need to find one that you can , ask questions , ask to see old parts , any mechanic that's honest/good in his work will show you those parts and even explain what they do

How much would it cost to replace power steering pump?

the pump itself is not that expensive. The issue is the labor and the process. The fluid should be changed, the belt and the pump replaced. AT a shop this can be about 300 in labor plus the cost of parts. What is the problem that you are having?

My check engine comes on when its cold or damp outside and now since its winter i have noticed coolant leak around water pump. does my water pupm need changing and could that be why my engine light was...

There are litterally hundreds of reasons why your Check Engine Light could becoming on. The only way to find out is by having your engine computer scanned for fault codes. If your water pump is leaking it needs to be replaced regardless of whether or not it is the reason for the check engine light coming on. I don't know the labor rates where you are...come to think of it, I have no clue where you are...But what I can tell you is that the water pump on your car is not very expensive at all compared to most of the water pumps I change. It's one of te easiest water pumps out there...not much labor involved.

2003 VW PASSAT. Check engine light goes on and

8.5 hrs + parts sounds about right. But why would a 7 year old cars oil pump fail? They usually last a lifetime. Has there been a lubrication problem? Low oil, cheap oil, wrong oil? But then again my daughters 04 Toyota needed a valve job, head gasket and water pump recently. I'm doing 90% of work and it still cost about $2000. Her problem was bad oil!

My 1996 Toyota Camry is leaking oil right side front of vehicle

More than likely it would be the front seals, oil pump front shaft seal and gasket ( "o" ring), Cam seal, crank seal one of those. Have to remove timing belt in order to change these seals. I would change out all the seals and put a new timing belt on it. Depending on how many miles you have on your car I would consider a water pump as well because the timing belt also needs to be removed to replace this part. In other words... Costly repair, but instead of replacing the seals and solving the leak and then 2 weeks later the timing belt snaps, then you just paid twice for the labor. Check oil pan gasket first b4 you spend money on seals.
