I have changed everything for the clutch, master cylinder, slave cylinder, flywheel and the clutch will still not work. why?

It won't release? If you crank the car in first gear with the clutch press does it try to take of ?

I believe you are looking for a master cylinder. A slave cylinder would be on the wheel if talking brakes. If talking clutch, a slave cylinder would be on the bell/flywheel housing between the motor and tranny. The master cylinders for either brakes or clutch would be on the firewall under the hood directly in front of the drivers side.

How to unstick a cluch disc


Hi Dee:
Sounds as if you have a project. I'd suggest that you approach it one step at a time.
- First, get the slave cylinder working. How do you know that it's not the master cylinder that's not getting fluid to the slave cylinder?
- Once the slave cylinder is working, when the clutch pedal is depressed, the clutch should be "released" as in there should be nothing holding it against the flywheel.
- If the clutch plate is stuck to the flywheel (this can happen if the flywheel gets rusty) there are a couple of ways to try to get it loose. One of the crudest that often works is to put the vehicle in low gear with the engine OFF. With another vehicle, preferrably a truck, and with someone holding the clutch pedal down, try to tow the one with the stuck clutch. Usually a couple of bumps will loosen it. Make sure you're trying to pull on a part that is strong and that won't be damaged.

are you sure the driven plate is on the correct side? The clutch bearing is correct on high? Does the slave or master cylinder works ok? do they keep steady pressure when needed? Is the clutch kit the correct part according to engine type?

this problem is caused by a leaking hydraulic clutch slave or master cylinder, the most likely cause is the slave cylinder down on the transmission, have a shop put it up and see where the leaking fluid is coming from, top or bottom..

2001 Ford ranger edge. The gears won't change.


The trans will need to come out. While your at it, just replace the clutch assembly, rear main oil seal, resurface the flywheel, and the clutch master cyl. Its not really a job you should do, find a repair shop to handle it.

ON A 2000 MAX 6 CYLINDER HAS CLUTCH MASTER CYLINDER AND SLAVE CYLINDER, CHECK FLUID LEVEL AND BLEED CLUTCH SYSTEM AT SLAVE CYLINDER BLEEDER. HAVE NOT HEAR OF CABLE CLUTCH SYSTEM. ONLY HYDO.& LINKAGE. GOOD LUCK

Clutch pedal goes down to floor but doesnt come back up when some1 starts engine and i put a bar by clutch level and move it we can select gears then i have change master cylinder but no different can you...


sounds like your clutch plate is sticking, i recommend fitting a new clutch kit, while doing this remember to machine the flywheel or you will still have same problem. if this does not work it might be your clutch cable, replace cale first (cheaper option 1st) then replace the clutch kit.

New clutch won't work.


There are several things to check here. First check that the master cylinder to the clutch is working correctly. Then check that the slave cylinder is working. The Fords are sometimes difficult to bleed. The other item unfortunately is in the bell housing. There is a pivot that the release fork rolls over in the bell housing. Fords are famous for these breaking and causing the clutch to not disengage. The other problem could be the release fork is bent. These are not all fix it items. Just all the probable items that could be the problem. Hope this helps you. Usually you can just get the flywheel resurfaced for about $12. Was your flywheel junk? I hope someone didn't just decide to sell you a flywheel. Let me know what you find.
