This is usually straight forward but I understand there is a bolt on the drivers side rear kind of hidden between the Firewall and engine.

Also if you have an antifreeze leak on the front passengers side it is a common defect. At one time there was a Warranty for this defect.

SOURCE: How do I remove the intake manifold on a 1999 Mercury Grand Marquis?

If you are not confident you can get it back together, don't take it apart. That being said..You could buy a manual. If you have a library card you can search Oplin Research Database. Go to the car repair reference center and enter your type of vehicle. There will be an option for repair information. Do a search.. Or you could just unplug anything necessary, vacuum lines, wiring. Loosen any nuts, bolts, fasteners, etc. holding the intake on. Replace any gaskets you disturb. Might be a good idea to check on a gasket kit in advance. Remember what you took off and put it back on in reverse. If it is broken replace it. Hope this helps..

I have a 98 grand marquis it keeps overheating I changed my radiator, thermostat and intake manifold the car will drive well then start to overheat and once it overheats all the antifreeze will leak out

This could be a broken head gasket, cracked head or block.

Pull the thermostat back out and you should be able to see water flow through the radiator. Make sure the water pump is working.

Were does the antifreeze leak from?

1999 mercury grand marquis occcasionally overheats, blows antifreeze out around radiatior cap & has a gurgling sound coming from passenger floor/dash area. Have replaced thermostat, hoses, waterpump,...

The Grand Marquis's have a know problem that causing overheating. The intake manifold cracks around the water inlet tubes on the intake manifold causing it to loose anti-freeze which in turn causes overheating. Mercury has a beefed up replacement intake manifold that cures the problem. It was a subject of an unannounced recall but they would replace it unless the problem occurs. The recall was for 7 years which the 1999 model wouldn't qualify for now. It happened to me and cost about $450.00 (parts and labor) to fix it. I used a local repair shop to do the work. If, after the engine is hot, you hear water/steam coming from the top of the manifold, you have the problem

Is it worth replacing intake manifold for a 98 Grand marquis

HI. It all depends on how long you plan on keeping this vehicle. If you plan on keeping this vehicle for another 3 to 6 years; This repair makes much sense. I would suggest to administer the repair, in this case. Now; If your near future plans do not include this vehicle, i would not waste the money on this particular repair procedure. Hairline fractures will develop overtime and cause performance issues, as well as, other severe issues.

Again; I would recommend to replace the intake if you plan on keeping this vehicle. If not, don't waste your money.

1997 Grand Marquis-Montigua--What would be the rough cost to replace the "intake" (incl. labor)?

The intake manifold with gaskets runs about $250.00, then probably $100-$200 for labor, about 2-4 hours of time.

Where are the spark plugs located on a 2000 Mercury grand Marquis?

There are eight COPs (coil-on-plugs) to remove. Using a 7mm or 9/32" socket, remove each bolt securing each COP to the intake manifold on top of the engine. Remove all eight COPs, and the spark plugs are underneath. When replacing the spark plugs, use only the proper Ford/Motorcraft plugs, even if they cost twice as much as the aftermarket ones. You will avoid further headaches this way. Hope this helps.

My 96 meunder the mercury grand marquis is running hot

A cracked Intake manifold. Check the manifold in two places, on the front cross over behind the alternator and the base of the heater hose connector on the rear of the passenger side.
