I changed my pads and master cylinder on my 09 journey and yes I bench bled the master cylinder and calipers but only my front pasanger and rear driver side work replaced master cylinder again

Did you fully bleed the brakes after installing the new parts. It sounds as if you air bound

    Yes I bench bled the master cylinder until no more air bubbles
    I had my brother pump and hold the brake pedal while I bled
    But still no fluid or air is coming out of back left and front right even tried another master cylinder

    If there is no fluid coming out, then you are air bound...... usually if you open the brake bleeder fully and just let it sit gravity will do the trick. If not you will need to draw a vacuum on the line to force the air towards the tire.... The air bound is more than likely close to the master cylinder since that is the part you replaced. It may take upwards of an hour or so for the fluid to work its way out.... And one final question, you did take the dust preventer caps and or inserts out of the master cylinder before you installed it I hope

    sorry to keep adding comments, but also check the bleeder itself, if its a pluggable bleeder you have to take the bleeder all the way off

I have a 23 t bucket and i cant get a brake pedal.when i bought it had very little brake so i replaced rear shoes and cylinders,front pads and calipers,all new lines and the master cylinder


Once you have bled the air from the brake lines,clamp off the front brake hoses carefully.Does the pedal feel better now?
Then the pad /caliper fit is allowing too much play.Is the pedal the same?Then clamp the rear hose and try the pedal.Is it fine with the rear hose clamped?If so we now know the problem is at the rear brakes.One common low pedal rear brake cause is brake shoes that do not fit the drums.Remove the drums and look at the shoes,are they showing contact wear fully or just in the middle of the shoe?Remove a shoe and place it in the drum.Can you rock the shoe against the drum surface?Once drums have been resurfaced,the shoes will not fit fully against the drum allowing the shoe the flex when applying pressure to it and this can easily create a low soft brake pedal. Of course rear brake adjustment must be correct once brake shoe contact is correct.To correct brake shoe contact,have your shoes re arc-ed to fit resurfaced drums or install new drums.Don't overlook brake master cyl /brake pedal push rod adjustment too.

Have you checked the master brake cylinder reservoir for brake fluid loss?

I don't suspect the master cylinder as you have replaced it... but am more suspect of a leaking brake line or fitting which should have
been discovered when you had the system bled.

The only time I ever had a rear brake problem with a 2500 series Chevrolet was due to seized rear brake caliper guide pins...as your calipers are also new that is not your problem.

If your brake pedal feels spongy and travels to the floor board you have air in the system, a brake fluid leak or a failure in the power steering system, such as a broken hose, broken power steering pump drive belt, or failed pump, would result in a loss of pressure to both the hydro-boost and steering.

If the car has Drum style rear brakes, make sure the adjustment is good. It takes a lot of fluid to activate them.
PS. I assume you did bleed the rears.

Brake pedal goes to floor.......pads, rotors and calibers are new, lines have been bled.


Sounds like it is not completely bled. I would bench bleed the master cylinder first and then bleed to whole system again. The calipers take quite a bit of fluid and it sounds like you may have ingested air during the bleeding process. Start from the left rear and then right rear, then right front and then left front. Make sure you keep the master cylinder full during bleeding because it can **** air if low and you will not notice. It takes a while to do it correctly unless you have a pressure bleeder.

Replaced front calipers,master cylinder,front and rear pads and resurfaced all four rotors.I bled the brakes starting with right rear then left rear, right front then left front and still feels like there...


did you bench bled master? if yes do you have abs system,if so you must bleed at abs block,if it has bleeders, if not then you must line bleed all 6 lines.2in from master 4 out to wheeles. then rebleed wheel in cylinder.If you have bleeders at abs block you dont to rebleed wheels. best dun with powerbleeder. hoooooops this helps

After replacing drive side caliper, both front disk brakes, and rear drum brakes, bleed all three lines, both my front calipers lock grinding my front brakes. I am going to re-bleed my lines tomorrow but...


I assume you mean that you replaced the front pads and rear shoes. Or did you also replace the disks and drums?? Either way you should be ok unless you also replaced the slave cylinders on the rears.
The fluid flows back up to the Master Cylinder as you squeeze the calipers and the slaves to fit the new parts in. Some people pre-fill the caliper to reduce the amount of air and make bleeding easier.Now .....Grinding better be a wrong choice of words. Possibly you spilled fluid on the pads while bleeding the lines. This will cause a binding and shuddering when you apply brake pressure. This will also make you think the lines are not bled properly because of the increased pedal pressure you are putting on the wet/lubricated front pads. If so, replace the pads. Don't try washing them with aerosol cleaner cause it takes more time and money than simply changing them.

Brakes are still spongy after changing the pads, one caliper, and master cylinder. bled front brakes.


I just went to Brake Masters this morning and had them replace the Master Cylinder since I was experiencing the pedal very spongy and going to the floor. When they replaced the Master Cylinder and they gave me back the car, the brakes were still spongy and going to the floor. I addressed this to them and they took another look at it, but when I took it for a second time, the brakes were extremely spongy. It was almost like they gave me back my car in worst condition to when I brought it in. Can you help?

the master cylinder needs to be "bench-bled" before installation, if you are doing this and still having the problem, did you look into changing the rear brakes as well? check rear wheel cylinders for any small leaks
