Question about Hummer Cars & Trucks

On my 2003 Hummer, why does oil pressure drop to zero when warm?

Engine runs fine, no problem. The oil pump and sender were replaced in 2012.

The replacement sender may be defective.

How do I check and replace engine oil sensor.

Knowing how these gauges work , I'd say you have an instrument cluster problem not oil sender unit. 2003 - 2006 GM had bad stepper motors in the instrument cluster . If there was a problem with the oil sender the gauge would default to zero .
Engine Oil Pressure Gage
The instrument panel cluster (IPC) displays the engine oil pressure as determined by the powertrain control module (PCM). The IPC receives a class 2 message from the PCM indicating the engine oil pressure. The engine oil pressure gage defaults to 0 kPa (0 psi) or below if:
?€¢
The PCM detects a malfunction in the engine oil pressure sensor circuit.

?€¢
The IPC detects a loss of class 2 communications with the PCM.

If you don't know what class 2 serial data communications are ,google it. How to repair GM Instrument Cluster Speedometer Gauge Stepper

Oil pressure gauge drops to zero when car slows down, sometimes will go up when rpm reaches 2800, otherwise stays at zero, when shut off and turned on again pressure would be normal

Hi assuming the oil filter has not become blocked, it sounds like the oil pump is not working properly. Of course it could be something more simple like a faulty gauge, sender or bad connection. But assuming again that the engine is suffering from oil starvation, I would get it checked quickly before you seize the engine completely. Good luck!

After warming up oil pressure dropes to zero at idle give it gas and returnes to normal no engine noise

first suspect is the pressure sending unit itself. BUT that condition can be serious and if replacing the sender does not correct the problem you need to have an external gauge attached and actual pressure verified. since you hear no noise (yet), I'd lean towards the pump pickup screen being partially obstructed. Across the board crank bearing wear is also suspect though.
Oil pressure always reads higher when cold because the oil tends to thin out a bit when warm. It should however never drop that low, 15psi is the absolute low idle pressure I accept as nearly normal on any engine.
Fuel contamination in the oil can also cause problems but is easily identified by a simple "sniff test" of the dipstick.

Oil pressure guage has pegged on the high side. Would this be caused by a faulty Oil pressure sending unit? Engine is not overheating and seems to be running fine.

Bad sender is most likely, but could also be stuck oil pressure relief valve. You need to be sure, or the pump could break and destroy the engine.
Try a cheap mechanical gauge instead, screwed into the sender hole. If pressure good there, then check the sender with ohmmeter. If 0 or infinite ohms, replace sender. If not, see if gauge drops to 0 when sender disconnected. If not, then gauge bad.

Have a 96 chevy cavalier. replaced IAC,fuel pump assembly, fuel filter, tested and adjusted TPS but still haveing problem with car shutting off after about 30 mins of driving. Also once "warms" up during...

If your oil pressure gets to low it can turn off the fuel pump. This may also have saved your engine. The ECM turns on the fuel thru the fuel pump relay for about 5 seconds. When engine is running oil pressure sender supplies the voltage to the pump. When engine shuts off check oil pressure and voltage to fuel pump.

Why is my oil pressure gauge on my 2003 hummer h2 always read 80 when the vehicle is running, back to zero when shut off?

because when the engine is shut off, the oil pump is also shut off, therefore no oil pressure. no problem here!

Oil pressure warning on 2001 Volvo v70 with 220Km

2 things i would do professionally first. 1. change the oil using a higher weight and a volvo oil filter(there is a difference) 2. have a "wet" gauge installed at the oil pressure sending unit to verify oil pressure from cold to warm. a "wet" gauge is a gauge that reads actuall oil pressure and not the use of electronics. it is usually very acurate. if the oilp pressure still drops, then you are looking at an oil pump issue most likely.

I have a 1993 jaguar sov, 4.0 strait 6 cylinder, the oil gauge drops down to nothing and the car starts running rough, is the oil pump internal or external, and how big of a job is it to fix?

Before you tear into the engine remove the oil pressure sender and install a hand held mechanical gauge and check the pressure. The sending unit coud be bad. As far as the rough running.. when was your last tune up?? The gauge could also drop to zero due to insufficient RPM's because of the rough running. Does it have any knocks when the pressure is at zero??
