Which wires do I connect to get my sterio to turn on and off with my key

You need to connect your power wire to a switched item like the heater at the fuse box. most have an acc plug in in the box left for key op acc. but you can plug into anything that comes on only with the key.

My car won't start or even turn over when I turn the key to the ACC,position everything comes on but when I turn it to on every thing goes dead checked starter and battery and fuses. Pont.Bonni.2003

Sounds like a faulty switch. Not much else would be involved.
The switch gets power from the same source in both positions.
The only thing that comes to mind is a faulty switch or a weak connection at the battery. It could be pulling more current in the on position which would cause a weak connection to fail.
But I would bet on the switch first.

I was sitting at a stop light and the car died and smoke came from steering column ever thing else works light radio etc but when you turn the key there is nothing no idiot lights no miles nothing the car...

Maybe the ignition switch burned up. A lot of juice travels through them and it has happened.
What is confusing is, lights will work without the switch. You should be able to turn lights on without the key in the ignition. But a radio normally needs the ignition turned to ACC (accessory) or ON. And some when left on don't turn off with the key off until the door is opened.

Possibly the ignition melted and is affected to where the radio still gets power as if it was in the ACC position

Avital 473L bought for a 99 Nissan maximal. How to program? Instructions say to press valet button? Don't have one that I know of. The Nissan instructions, put key in and out 6 times, hazards flash,...

Some of those cars did not have that option on them. You must frist open the drivers door. then press the lock button on the main switch oin the door. Then close the door and slowly insert the key 6 times within 10 seconds but do not go to fast and when the flashers blink then turn the key to the ACC potion and press one of the buttons on the remote.

No constant Bat. for the radio. for a 1995 Honda civic.

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

Offhand on most car radio, the yellow wire should be connected to an always on B+12 source (such as the one connected to the + terminal of the battery); the red would be connected to an ACC B+12 such as the a wire from the IGN switch and of course the black to the GND. A fuse would be inline on either or both the yellow and red. The fuse holder would look like a tubular lump along the wiring sometimes black or translucent. In some instances, there would be a fuse holder below the connector at the rear of the radio. To determine always on 12 and ACC 12, a voltmeter would come in handy.

Good luck and Thank you for using FixYa.

I have a 1991 Honda and the key will not turn in the ignition

you need to replace the ignition switch- most cars run around $25. they are fairly simple to replace.
remove the shroud that covers the steering wheel, turn the key to ACC, using a small flat head screwdriver, press the release button- usually located on the top right side, the switch should pull out with no problem. make sure the new switch is turned to ACC, and slide it in the slot, make sure the new switch works before you reassemble everything.
