Question about Cars & Trucks

1 Answer

I have a 92 Integra with a b18a1. And it's stock but it's rebuilt. My question is it possible that they put low compression pistons in the stock block? All compression is at 75

It is possible but unless you have wild cams and the test was done at the top of mount everest I doubt it. In a stock motor 75 psi would be less than 6:1 compression ratio. Was the testing done at wide open throttle.

SOURCE: cams wont turn after replacing headgasket

you need to start over with the timing process the valves are hitting the pistons because the cams are not in time rotate the pistons off tdc by about 90 degrees counterclockwise and reset the cams then turn the engine to tdc and put it together rotate by hand after installation to be sure it turns freely 2 full revolutions of the crank and all the marks should line back up

SOURCE: Low overall compression in 1996 honda accord 4cyl 129.75 psi avg.

the compression pressures are on the low side. The indications are worn rings as the pressure readings come up when the ring seal is improved with the addition of oil. The bores will be worn in a taper and if the head was to come of there would be a noticeable lip where the top ring stops in the cylinder
rings and cylinders wear equally but rings suffer from a loss of tension, and an increased ring gap that allows more compression to escape to the sump
Do you need to do something about it--
if there is an oil consumption problem( smokey) then yes
If the economy is acceptable to you then --no --not immediately
What should you consider in making a decision----
1. good engines are available from japanese spares ( imported engines with less than 30.000klms on the engine for a fair price
2. consider what is termed a "short motor" which is the block, crank, pistons ,rings, oil pump and sump all new
What you should not consider is a quickie fix--set of rings and nothing else as this will cost you more in the long run.

2005 TOYOTA TACOMA TRUCK HAD ENGINE REBUILT PUT IN TRUCK WILL TURN OVER BUT WANT CRANK LOW COMPRESION ON ONE SIDE

If engine was just rebuilt and you have low compression on one side either the job was botched or perhaps the plugs are not in all the way and are not tight resulting in compression loss. If they are in properly you have a valid complaint against those folks that worked on your engine.

Could also be valves that are not seating properly or bad piston rings.

I can't compress the caliper piston with a c-clamp. I opened the brake fluid master cylinder ( i think, no diagram given in manual and everything in german) How do I release this compression?

Did you try opening the bleeder screw on the caliper it self. If you still can't compress the piston back into the caliper after opening the bleeder screw you may have a caliper that is locking or locked up. Sometimes a big pair of channel locks and a lot of muscle can compress the caliper again. If not you may need to replace the calipers. Make sure to ask for rebuilt verses new. there is a huge price difference.

#2 cylinde r head bad. how to repair low compression

First thing you need to do is determine why the compression in that cylinder is low. Four possible causes are 1. blown head gasket 2.bad valve(s) in the head 3. broken compression ring, piston ring land or burned piston. 4. rounded camshaft lobes
One other possibility is a fuel washed cylinder (from leaking injector)
You are going to have to remove that cylinder head and do a thorough internal inspection, possibly involving oil pan and piston removal.
Once the cause has been found you can proceed to make an appropriate repair. Or if the damage is beyond your ability, replace the engine with a used or new one.
There is no quick easy fix to restore compression.

I have a 91 acura integra blowin blue smoke an im gettin oil in the plugs an i changed the gaskets around the spark plugs im readin 230-240psi compression on all my clyinders

that is a high compression ratio for a leaking motor. The blue smoke is from oil burning, it's either blown piston rings, valve seal problems. Or possibly a sludge problem in the car. This is a major concern probably need a short block for the car.

Knockin noise at the top of valve cover, no motor power ,cyl 5 6 misfiring 92 maxima

Sounds like you have a couple of failed valves. Do a compression test on cylinders 5 and 6. You will have very little compression in either cylinder if valves are broken. You will have to have your head rebuilt at least on those two cylinders and possibly piston work depending on how the valves failed.
