Sounds like tail light bulbs are wasted - or a fuse for that circuit needs replaced. Remove light bulbs and see if there is a brake in their tiny filament. Replace both sides if not sure. See the fuse panel cover or car manual for the fuse location. A spare may be there to replace - if needed - or buy a pak of the size sown.
