Question about Honda Cars & Trucks

1 Answer

What is the MCU and can it be a factor in my issue?

2005 Honda Accord coupe EX 6 cyl, manual trans: Remote keys don't work and driver side window will not move. I have been unable to reprogram remote keys as they do nothing. Tried resetting electronics by disconnecting battery for 10 minutes and reconnecting, without result. Car starts and runs fine. Passenger window works properly and can be controlled from either side. Door locks seem to be working, however they will not work if the key is off. where they are supposed to operate. I have replaced the window regulators of both doors and the master control switch. when this was completed, everything worked aside from having to reprogram the keys. This I did with success and all was good. My wife drove the car the next day and told me that the driver window was not working. Additionally. all remote functions of both keys stopped working. They are completely dead with no capability for reprogramming. I have replaced the batteries in both keys. I have tried checking all fuses. I have disconnected and reconnected the battery. Disconnected and reinstalled master switch plug. I have tried to reprogram my keys. I have replaced batteries for the keys. I have been researching on this site and others and have found where similar issues have been tied to the multiplex control unit. Does anyone have information or knowledge about this component? Where is this located? What functions does it control. Could this relate to my key and window problems? My next shot is to go to the Honda repair shop. I must apologize for posting this a second time, but I thought that if I added more information that someone might have or offer a viable solution. I have also tried to reset the system by turning on the key with the intermittent wiper in the center position.

There's nothing more frustrating than an intermittent problem with something we use as often as our power windows and locks. Sometimes they work fine, other times they don't. And then sometimes they just stop altogether. It's no fun being the guy at the toll booth who's inventing a new yoga move to pass the collector 50 cents through an open door. It could be a bad switch, motor or solenoid that's on its last legs causing your problems. But it could also be electronic leprechauns haunting your electrical system.Lucky for you, there's a simple, quick and clean fix that seems to solve the problem a large percentage of the time. The solution was tested for 6th generation Honda Accords, but will surely work on a number of models since the MCU[/link (an electronic brain that runs stuff) will be designed similarly.
The fix is simple. With the ignition off, set the intermittent wiper control to the middle position, then turn the car on. This resets the brain and gets things back to normal. So ...

  • Ignition switch off.
  • Intermittent wiper set to middle position.
  • Ignition back on.
  • Back in business!

Unfortunately it is a problem. A lot of times it results from not changing the fluid, but even 43K miles isn't very much. Personally I would keep the pressure on AHM to help you out with the repairs.
