SOURCE: Is a 2005 Chevy 2.8 litre motor an interference motor?

No it is not an interference engine.....However .Most European engines are..Some are and some are not in most small engine cars/trucks of all makes...All it really means is the timing of the engine is different than others to improve performance....However if your timing belt snaps with an interference engine it can cause more damage because of the odd timing they have...So ...No ...Your engine is Non interference..

SOURCE: 2002 chevy malibu engine 3.4 interference motor or not?

The 2002 Chevrolet Malibu has the 3.1mfi engine which is not an interference engine. It has a timing chain and not a belt. It is an o.v.h. system with two valves per cylinder. I have replaced timing chains and have had the heads checked, with no damage to the valves.
