My 2007 crown victory is getting no pressure and it is over heating but dont show on the thermostat I got the water put fixed but it still over heating could this be a major problem

Plugs, Direct ignition modules should be checked for conductivity and resistance,oil, oil filter, 14 quarts of tranny fluid, tranny filter,oil, oil filter, serpentine belt, tensioner pulley setup ( cops beat on these motors) fuel filter, flush the coolant system ( a new radiator is great for these cars), timing belt, purple oil for the rear end, Id either ad Lucas (my first chioce) or marvel mystery oil for the motor, tranny, and rear end, as long as there isnt any serious trouble mechanicaly this will condtion the moving parts and reduce breakdown of those partts. Other than that i think you'd be wasting money, i work at a dealer that specializes in goverment cars, ive seen theese steps bring a car that wont move and barely run, to a dependable daily driver. good luck

There are other things to test before we have the engine spread all over the yard. Cooling fan operation. Yes the thermostat hot air in heater just means hot water. start with a cold engine then start and run at a high idle if heats quickly upper radiator hose hot lower cold good but reverse no flow. remove and test thermostat (not replace) put on stove boil water and watch it open once center piece is moving check with thermometer it should agree with stamp number on thermostat. if good check for slipping fan belt. check for air restrictions on radiator and water flow.

Hi Kim,

I can feel your frustration. It sounds like you've done all the logical stuff already. The "donut hole" in your process would seem to be not changing the water pump. The water pump as you might imagine, is responsible for circulating (pumping) the relatively cool water in the radiator into the running engine that contains the hot water. Hoses connect the two together. A thermostat is between the radiator and the engine. Once the water in the running engine gets to a certain temperature, the thermostat opens allowing the water pump to send cool water into the engine and hot water out to the radiator to be cooled. The heater core is usually on the passenger side firewall area.

It sounds like the water pump is the only thing left to change - if it isn't working - it can't circulate the water - and will result in overheating. Lastly, a clogged heater core shouldn't cause the engine to overheat - in fact, if the engine begins to overheat, you should turn the heat to HIGH fan and HIGH temperature to help remove some of the heat in the coolant.

My 99 alero v6 is over heating not leaking ight mite be hoses or thermostat . or head gasket but when it overb heats the smoke comes from the top of the engine

did you buy the heater cores new heater core and radiator is two different things sounds like you thermostat is bad touch your bottom hose and your top are they both hot if ones hot and ones cold water is not circulating bad thermostat is the heater core put in right

My 2005 Grand Prix has no heat and my gas mileage is awful. would changing thermostat fix problem. also at night not sure if this has anything to do with problem only my blue temperature arrows light...


A FAULTY THERMOSTAT STUCK OPEN WILL EFFECT GAS MILEAGE AND CAUSE POOR OR NO HEAT CONDITIONS.THERMOSTAT NOT A HARD JOB TO FIX.ALL YOU NEED TO DO IS DRAIN OUT SOME OF THE COOLANT IN A DRAIN PAN.DRAIN COOLANT LEVEL BELOW THERMOSTAT.IF YOU HAVE 3.8L ENGINE THERMOSTAT HOUSING ON TOP INTAKE MANIFOLD.IF YOU HAVE 5.3L ENGINE FOLLOW TOP RADIATOR HOSE IT WILL LEAD YOU TO THERMOSTAT HOUSING.REMOVE HOUSING THERMOSTAT INSIDE THE HOUSING.IF YOU HAVE WATER INLET ANDTHERMOSTAT IN ONE COMPLETE UNIT OR HOUSING YOU HAVE TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE WATER INLET HOUSING WITH NEW THERMOSTAT.THIS TYPE UNIT WILL HAVE LONG PIPE WITH BYPASS PIPE WITH WATER INLET WITH THERMOSTAT. It looks like the water pump is leaking aroud the gasket . the fuied keeps leaking out an i get no heat


you can get a radiator pressure tester put pressure on radiator if a leak is there it will show.but if you can see water coming from water pump replace -replace thermostat-check hoses -radiator flowing good.

Heating up just installed new thermostat but still heating up


did you burp the system before you started it? if not you will have to get all the air out of the system so the thermostat will work, if there is no water the thermostat won't open, and if the thermostat you put in did not have a small bleed hole you will have to remove it and drill a 1/16 inch hole in the thermostat then make sure the hole is at the top so the water will go past the thermostat and fill the block if it still over heats take the radiator cap off and have it pressure tested if it does not hold pressure then replace the cap, if the cap is bad the system will not pressurize and will allow the water and antifreeze boil. Overheating 2001 chevy impala


Believe it or not, new thermostats can be bad. Did you maybe get some adhesive on the thermostat preventing it to open fully? Is the thermostat installed with the crown up? The only other thing that I can think of, if it's a closed cooling system and the wrong radiator cap is installed, it won't hold the pressure, therefor overheating. The other thing may be the water pump. Many times the impellers will wear down internally causing to low of water flow.

Stalling problems


Remove the raidator cap while running or watch the overflow tank for bubbles. If you see bubbles either way, most likely your cause of the overheating is a leaking head gasket. If you have a cooling system pressure tester, pump up the cooling system and see if it looses pressure, if it doesn't hold pressure, again bad head gasket.
