If and when you change your tranny fluid add some lucas transmission additive. What it sounds like are your bands are stuck. The lucas fluid additive is totally amazing. Give it a try

Slipping transmission.

The friction plates maybe well worn and need replaced. Torque converter may be failing. Automatic transmissions can and will wear out in time. 14 years is alot for any vehicle.

Automatic trans slips 92 ford explorer

I would have the transmission check if you plan on keeping the car a long time. The lucas oil is an additive for the oil. The additive is making the fluid a little heavier and tricking the soleniods or clutch and bands with a different pressures.

This is a temporary fix. The transmission over time is going to start to slip more and more.

no this is a transmission mechanical problem caused by the main clutch pack being worn out, the likage will not cause this symptom.
