I think your alternator suffered when you ran the engine with no alternator station and this has perhaps burned its rectifier ar has caused shorted turns

look for a recon or scrapper one {10-£20}
if this fixes it i would replace with new and pass on the other or keep as spare

this could have also buckled the cells in the battery so check this also ....

I did replace the altenator and visually checked all under the hood wires. I've had 2 people check it and neither fixed it

hi there did you check the current between the battery and when the lights are on and not you need atleast a 50 amp current meter quite easy to make one and you can measure what current is returing to the battery and what its putting back if the battery drains the alternator via the regulator isnt supplying enough current but the voltage is constant replace the regualtor pack next after you check the battery is good... and with a steady 12v or more engine off..

i think the regulator pack isnt passing enough current

SOURCE: battery light on volt gauge is ok new altenator and battery

It is the two or three wire connector on the top side of the alternator. Either a wire has broke before the plug or there is a problem with the plugs terminals. The dealer sells a repair pig-tail if you need it.

The regulator is in the alternator. Did you check voltage at the battery? Nothing in the diagram jumps out at me. Is the check engine light on? Maybe we could get a hint if there was a trouble code.bc11b1d.gif

SOURCE: I have a 1998 nissan frontier. alternator has been

first thing to check is the proper routing of the belt. there is also a tensioner and it may have failed and need replacing. you may also want to check that you are getting the proper replacement alternator (amperage). you have not mentioned if you hear the belt slipping or not. removing the battery connectors and cleaning them with a wire brush would also be a good idea. keep in mind if your stereo is of the anti theft variety make sure you know the code and how to enter it.

Battery light comes on and off and computer says service charging system and battery not charging sometimes when I first start the engine its fine but after awhile battery light comes on and battery not...

what you need to do is check the altenator for voltage it should be between 13 and 15 volts this is easily done with a standard volt meter check it at the altenator witch is located right on top of the engine on the back of the altenator there is a thick red wire that is where you want to put the positive and just put the black wire of the volt meter on the case of the altenator and check the reading it sounds like the altenator is bad there is also a fuse you should check your owners manual for location of the fuse also have your battary checked this should help ant questions just ask me

If you did not drain the fuel all the way or put a stabilizer in the fuel then you have gummed up lines for one thing. The other noises are not really concerning.

I have a 99 Pontiac grand am gt that has a good alternator that isn't charging the battery. The wires are connected correctly and the connections are clean and the battery terminals are clean as well....

Have you taken the battery to autozone or someplace and had the battery tested? I would find if you know the alternator is good it must be the battery itself. Might want to try that if you havent already. Good Luck Bro~

I have a draw on the battery on my 85 Toyota pickup it kills a fully charged battery in about 2 hours... Ive put a volt tester between the disconnected positive battery cable and the positive battery post...

Simple!
Try to disconect the battery terminal when the engine runs, if ur engine stop running, it means ur ALTERNATOR is dead!

The voltage output of the alternator should read at 12.5v to 13 volts!

Better go to a pro, to test ur alternator and battery!

Will altenator cause motor not to start even though you are getting fuel and spark

ALtenator runs your car while it is running and charges your battery. If your altenator is bad you car will run on the battery until it drains the battery dead. So no the altenator will not prevent you car from starting. Check your fuses.

Alternator only putting out 12 volts into bettery

Altenator should put out at least 13.8-14.2 volts at idle. If not either the altenator is bad or not getting the signal to turn on. More than likely a bad alternator though.

The battery, which is new drains and does not charge during each use of the vehicle.

you need to check the charging system with a multimeter ,start the vehicle and turn on the high beams and the heater fan to high, and put four ways on,now check what voltage reading you have at the battery post,it should not even be lower than 12.5 volts.

Battery drains when car is on. Verified it is not

Sure sounds like a bad alternator to me-how did you verify the alt is okay? It should be putting out around 13.5 volts. Let engine idle-remove positive battery cable-if engine dies immediately, it IS the alternator.

If the alternator only puts out about 12/13 volts, the car's voltage consumption could be exceeding that; hence, intermittent charge/battery light.

The battery has 12.6 volts. The battery/charge light will come on if your car's voltage requirements exceed that. (Alternator pulley not spinning fast enough?) Loose alternator belt slipping could also cause this symptom.

Alternators CAN go inoperative intermittently.

Hope this helps.
