Where is the starter relay on a 1994 Mazda? - Cars & Trucks

1 Answer

A solenoid is usually attached to the starter motor
it a small cylinder on its side
if its not there then it will be mounted to the engine firewall and its square with three connections and a bump in the middle
on old cars you could press the bump and turn it over

My 1994 Mazda MVP will not start. Battery good. The heater blows cold only. Windshield wipers will not turn off unless the fuse is taken out. I'm assuming it electrical. Turn the key, nothing. Turned it...

There is a central component called a body computer among other names. I would think this would cause all of the problems that you are describing.

Montehammons answered my Mazda 626 starting problem .BUT I wanted to ask, when it will not start I rock it and it starts ??? Trans relay switch?

I'm back, Gary-like that commercial on tv where mechanics chase cars down the road on creepers! You have a failing connection somewhere. If you rock it and it works, don't sound like a relay-don't sound like the neutral safety switch-it really sounds like a failing starter or starter solenoid. To check, wait till it won't start, then check for power at solenoid wire when key is held in crank. If power then, suspect a bad starter or solenoid-have tested. If no power, try a new relay-starter relay. Another relay in your car may be same as the starter relay (same part number) so try swapping a different relay. Again, doesn't sound like relay, but you never know until tested. Good luck.

Wont key start but will start by pushing it off

Its been a long time since you ask but check the main relay. It engages the starter and the fuel pump while cranking and after ignition a seperate fuel pump relay takes over. I had a car that did the same thing.

The starter will not turn over. battery is good. does it have a starter relay?

Only if you have the theft deterrent option. Your security light would be blinking if that were the problem. Check your interlock by giggling the shifter or shifting to neutral while holding the key in the start position. Please see my tip at . These are generic instructions. Please let me know if you have more questions.

If the clicking sound is coming from the engine bay, from the relay, you may want to have the starter itself checked out. You need to check if the ground cable from the engine to the chassis is secured. If that is OK, you may want to have the starter motor checked.
