What (if any) starter relays are interchangable, in case I can't find an exact one?

check relay. should be located in engine compartment. review your owners manual for exact location of relay. interchange another relay of same into rear wiper motor . that should tell you very quickly if its a relay or electrical problem................real simple job

Transmission interchange

It should not make a difference so long as the bolts align correctly to secure transmission down. As long as the bolt holes you will be using will align, and the gears are good, you should be good to go.

Have your charging system tested and include the Battery. Go to ,register your vehicle for free, get free wiring diagrams and Fusebox layouts. Have a starter draw test done.

Check the relays for the fuelpump, ignition, and PCM. Sometimes the horn relay can be the same part number and be interchanged.

What you are describing can be many things. You have more compression in a hot engine, you have different timing in a hot engine because vehicles run so lean today. The O2 sensors may be keeping the engine too lean to restart after a warmup. Relays can overload when hot and kick out the connections. Your fuelpump can be failing.

You did not indicate how far you drive when this happens. If you are driving 10 miles a weak battery will not recharge, but a 100 mile trip gives it more opportunity. The starter draw test will tell if the starter is bad. The starter may cool down overnight, but frequent restarts may heat the starter with it failing.

I put a new rebuilt engine in a 2002 jeep grand cherokee and it wont crank,the starter wont even click and i have 12 volts down to the big wire on the starter. Can anybody help me?

Check the battery. You will need to have an Amperage test done. You can have this done at most major Auto Parts stores. The short easy test you can do on your own is to disconnect the positive cable from the battery. Using another vehicle to jump start yours connect directly to the cable and ground to the engine block. If the vehicle starts disconnect the cable, the vehicle should continue to run. If it does your alternator is most likely good and the problem is a dead cell in your battery which reduces the amount of amperage the battery stores. If it dies or does not start you have a short in your charging system or voltage regulator. If the battery is good and the alternator is good the problem will be in the ignition switch circuit itself. This could be a fuse or a relay and all will need to be tested. In many cases the AC relay and the ignition relay are the same and are interchangeable for testing. These relays are usually located in the power Distribution box under the hood.

Your starter relay has at least three other relays in the distribution center that are identical to it and can be interchanged to test.
It sounds a lot like you have a partially corroded connection that will allow low current draw but not the high amperage necessary to operate the starter. You need to use a volt meter to track that down, connecting it and checking voltages on the way to the starter. (check negative ground wiring as well).Check voltage with system unloaded, then again with key turned to the start position.
I'd also remove the spark plugs to make sure the engine can turn freely and that one cylinder is not filled with water from a head gasket failure (does not happen often but can and does happen)
If your vehicle has a security system, make sure you have re-set it as many will "lock you out" after a battery replacement.
Always work from a manual (such as chilton or haynes) as you need to see wiring paths on paper, avoiding cutting open every harness to follow a particular wire. Either manual is less expensive than any part you mentioned that you have already replaced.
What I just said is not a "guess" or a "try" is exactly what I or any competent tech would need to do in order to fix your problem.

96 voyager wont start. Turn key and nothing happens. No problems with battery or starter.

Check relay in relay box under hood on driver side near strut tower. Map should be on underside of cover of relay box. Also, try moving shifter through all gears slowly as you hold key in start position, in case safety neutral is faulty.

Starter will not turn with ignition key

some are fused and has relay. check fuse and relays. replace with the same type, you could try to interchange the relays if they are of the same type.
