Question about 2003 Ford Windstar

My 2003 Winstar LX diagnostic panel will not read. Cigarette lighter went out, then engine light came on, took for oil change, dealership could not read code and had not time to look further into it.

The DLC power is from the cigarette lighter fuse. Replace the fuse and take it to a parts store and they will get the codes for free. Don't buy parts until it is tested.

This is a joke,if dealer can not fix ,should not sell cars.

Dealer said he didn't have the time, I was only scheduled for oil change.
I've been checking other comments and it seems the fuse for this may be the issue. Do you have input in that case?

This only takes two minutes ,this is how they care about you, this cost $60..00.Cigarette lighter could be fuse, engine light is a problem, how they have no time to protect your car which can break down on the street.

You have to get the code before you can make repairs . Plug a another code reader into the diagnostic socket and read out the codes , The dealership reader could be faulty.

If the reader's fuse is blown, could this be the cause? If so which fuse or relay would account for issues of reader & cigarette lighter?

the cigarette lighter is fused don't know which one should be in owners manual or listed on cover to fuse block. the diagnostic port is not fused with the dealer one of two things either the mechanic didn't try or there system was not working I would still try autozone and see if they can read it

SOURCE: Interior light or cigarette lighter not working,

That's where a $5.00, 12 volt test light comes in handy. All you have to do then is touch tip on ends of fuses to see if they are good or not. No pulling fuses and no head scratching wondering which one it might be. If you have power on one side, but not the other, you found the blown fuse. It certainly is not uncommon to find the bad fuse, labeled wrong, or added in with something else that makes no sense at all.

SOURCE: engine light on won't go off and remote start doesn't work

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I beleive the XL-7 has an H series engine, no matter what country it's sold in. That means it is a V6 - that means it has timing chains, no timing belt. Ask them what code they had to clear, and ask them what code they clear this time. Don't just get a number either - P1234 means nothing to most people. You're paying for a service, and that service should involve explaining a problem in terms anybody can understand. If they don't see it that way, then they shouldn't being seeing the colour of your money. Now that the remote start doesn't work, I'd say they've being messing with the BCM and related security module and don't really have any idea of what they're doing. Give them the opportunity to rectify things (at least back to what it was when you first took it in), and if they can't (or won't) tell you what code was or is stored, then go elsewhere. Sorry to be so blunt, but Dealerships think they can get away with this "keep the customer in the dark" attitude. They really only give themselves the reputation they have. I know, because I worked at one that gave a s#!* and ended up with the problems everyone else had given up on. Good luck. Let me know how you go.

I have a 2001 DHS Deville Cadillac I lost power for interior lights cigarette lighter power locks and trunk I've tested all fuses and all good how can I get this fixed?

It really sounds like it is your cigarette lighter fuse, but could possible be a problem with the BCM. If you double check the cigarette lighter fuse and find it to be good, getting power in and putting power out. You might end up at the dealership for a BCM module diagnostic.

There is an alternate problem with the wiring in the cigarette lighter where the wire melts and breaks. If you pull out the cigarette lighter assembly you will see a place where one wire splits into two. Find the damage point and replace the wire with a thicker one.

There are no switches they can hit to make your airbag light go on. It just sounds like a horrible coencidence. Call VW Customer service number in your owners manual, they may do the diagnostic for free then.

Have a 2007 Santa Fe - Just took it in for an oil change last week. Now the oil warning light is on but the dip stick reads full. Has also starting making a squealing noise

Sometimes the dealership will forget to reset the oil light after changing the oil. It is there to remind you when it is time to get it changed. If you call them and let them know that they forgot to do it, they will probably just walk you through it. Also, check to make sure the put the oil cap back on ticht. It is not the dipstick, but the larger cap on the top of the engine that reads "oil".

I would check the oil pressure sensor and the oil pump itself. You can take the sensor out and use a mechanical gauge to check the oil pressure. If the oil pressure is within specs, you need a new sensor, if not, you need a new pump.

This is a very common issue, either the ground at the back of the lighter socket is pulled off, or more likely the socket is defective, they are very easy to change, u can use a generic replacement from any parts store, the factory part will be at least 2X as much..
