Question about 2004 Mercury Sable

1 Answer

I have a 04 Mercury Sable (3.0 V6 DOHC) I noticed it was idling higher, rougher than normal. To my discovery the TPS was bad. Shortly after a newer issue emerged. Now it's sluggish to accelerate.

most likely the idle air control valve is dirty.try cleaning it,if that doesnt fix it test the throttle position sensor.TPS usually causes higher than normal idle speed or intermittent misfires depending on throttle angle while driving.send me a msg for test procedure if needed

Mercury sable 2001 duratec engine DOHC I get check engine light and diagnostic code PO401". Any suggestions?

Barring any vacuum leaks, P0401 is indicative of a bad EGR valve. Hope this answers your question. Best of luck.

1989 Mercury Sable, 3.0L V-6, Auto Trans. Engine Idles at about 2000 RPM.

Check your vacuum hoses (They are 3/8" Rubber hosing on the right side of the engine, you will need to remove the air intake piping (Also remove the throttle body to make accessing them easier) This is the #1 cause of high idling in the 3.0 OHV and 3.0 DOHC sable engines.
