Do you know how I'd go about getting one?

  • Anonymous Apr 19, 2015

Nevermind it's not the antitheft kind. Thanks for the suggestion though.

You removed the alt your self.
sure.
and step one, it says, in the FSM (all books)
disconnect battery neg lug first.
if not the MAIN FUSES BLOW. preventing acid flying in to your eyes.
the fuse saved you, but now the main fuse box is dead.

if only the radio is dead, (you never said all things dead)
but if it asks for a code, like the operators guide says, (lost that)?
then the answser is here and on the web . 10000000 time.
id bet this question is the all time #1 car question. there is.
and the answer same for all cars.
ever google.
here lets do that for you.

https://www.google.com/webhp?gws_rd=ssl#q=car+radio+codes

now here in this fixya forum that never gets searched.

100,000 +_ hits. am I lucky or skilled, no , but can search.

You seem to have misunderstood my question. The jeep was taken to the shop to get fixed. The radio has no power at all as previously stated in the original question. So no it's not asking for a code.

    but still no power.

this is the confusing part, the car has vast power feeds, is radio is dead the fuse is dead. its that simple. if all else is ok, you left out status of all else.

buy a 10 buck volt meter at walmart?. A DMM, turn dial to volts if you have 12vdc to radio and its 100% dead in all way all modes. then the radio is bad. (some have fuses in side too) if the powe to the radio is 0v. then go to the fuse box. see RADIO fuse? no measure volts both sides (keyon) it must be 12vdc on both sides, if not , the fuse is blown, some fuses, that look ok, are not ok. (hair line cracks happen)

Changed the radio fuse. No power. No fuse in the radio. Also put in a new radio. Still no power.

voltage check the voltage there, the radio must be grounded too. the new radios , the red wire must measure 12dc key on, if not the cars fuse box has a blown fuse. for sure.

there are 2 ways to do this (3 really) a volt meter, and a test lamp, even more a buzz box, or a scope but the volt meter is best, The battery has 12.6vdc charged, so , you need to see that at the radio red wire , key on,.

the red color is standard for new aftermarket radios. of its a JEEP radio , that uses JEEP colors. and you never said who;'s new radio? Sony,"or what?

It's the exact same one that belongs in there. I purchased it when I thought the other one was bad. Which it is obviously not.

The Audio system on my 2005 Solara Convertible just died. I checked and replaced the 25 amp fuse (the old one still looked good), but still no power. What else should be checked?

dead as in all functions and modes dead, all.
?
well it can only be 2 things
1: no 12vdc to head, (use a 10 buck voltmeter from walfart>?)
2: head end is dead.

25amps is the wrong, fuse. even 10 amps is good for 140watts.
the fuse is stated in the operators guide lost that?
some cars its mark,, RADIO.
the fuse that looks bad is
the fuse that looks good, can be , in fact. bad. what most techs
do is use ,yes, the voltmeter again, to measure bothsides of fues
keyon, radio on, to check all fuses related to radio (audio)
12v on both sides wins
if 12v makes it to the Radio and amp (if external amp then that too must have power, for sure) then the radio is bad, or amp.
if the radio scans and finds stations(not stated) then the amp might
be bad or lost power.

radio 101, over and out.

Battery light went on while driving and radio went off in my 2003 pt cruiser

Check or have checked the alternator. If it is bad the radio is not the only thing that will shut off. When the battery drains enough the engine will shut down.

I just bought my 92 camaro yesterday my radio wont turn on and no sound will come out i went to pep boys they said my fuse was bad they put in a new fuse and it blew again what should i do?

when a fuse keeps blowing it means there is a short in the system, could be the radio is bad or there could be a wire that is grounding out, check the wires before you spend the money on a new radio.

Rear power window stop working also lost my power in my radio

There are two things that can cause this either there is a fuse that blew that connects both the window and the radio or its two seperate issues fuse to stereo and the window regulator went bad or switch on the window. First thing I would do is check the fuses if you confirm the fuses are all good you will want to diagnose the wiring on the stereo and ensure there is a good power and ground. If the window has 2 switches make sure its not locked if thats a option then go ahead and ensure it doesnt work on either switch if not you will want to get the door panel off and check for power and ground at the regulator if there is most likely the regulator went out and will need to be replaced. You can get the window up use a board to allow it to stay closed until you get a new regulator. Please let me know if there is anything else I can do for you. Thanks for using fixya!

I think my alternator is bad would this also

NO. The alternator feeds the battery, not your cars systems. The car systems are powered by the battery and the battery is constantly charged by the alternator. If your radio doesn't have power, check the fuse first, then the hot lead to the radio with a test light do not ry to "spark" the wire to test for power as this will blow the fuse. A radio fuse is only a 5 or 10 amp fuse and is very easy to blow out.. If the radio is getting power then the radio has to be replaced

Radio will not power on

I had an identical problem, but i fixed it with a dew fuses, it turns out that these volvos have 3 different fuses for the radio, there are two inside the car in the panel, and the third is under the hood just behind the battery. See if any of those fuses are bad, if all the fuses are good, check the connections behind the radio, i had to pry the connections to make them fit better on the back; if none of this works, then its most likely a bad radio or faulty wiring...
