Not a lot. You can do it yourself, for a few bucks. Get a recharge kit at your local auto parts place, and follow the directions it came with. $25 maybe.

A gauge comes with the kit. It's not nearly as hard as putting an adapter onto a vacuum cleaner... No tools are needed. Truly, all you do is locate the "low pressure port", one of two places under the hood, start your car, turn the AC on, and plug the freon cannister onto the port. Hold it while it drains into your car, and you're done.

If i am changing out a ac compressor at home. after i am done replacing it what is the best thing to do to recharge the system. i dont have a ac recovery machine an dont have the money to bring it to a...

Well, If you want to do the job correctly, you need to properly recover the freon and then evacuate the system before recharging. Failure to do so is ILLEGAL for the recovery part. EPA laws forbid knowingly releasing freon into the atmosphere. There are some hefty fines to pay if the authorities were to find out. Not to mention that I really don't appreciate people who knowingly and willingly pollute the air that I breath. - take that as you will.

For the evacuation part, failure to properly evacuate your system before recharging will leave moisture in the system that can destroy your new compressor. If that happens, you won't be saving any money! The air that is left in the system will take up room in the system that is needed for a proper freon charge and can adversely affect how well your system cools when you are finished.

Here is a possible alternative. Take it to a shop just for recovery and evacuation. The labor charges will not be that much. In fact, some shops will do the recovery for free if you tell them they can just keep any freon that is recovered. You need to do a recovery to remove the freon from the system anyway so nothing blows up in your face when you disconnect system components. Then you can return to the shop after replacing the compressor and drier fo an evacuation. This is a good idea also because the system can be checked for leaks by evacuating and seing if the system holds vacuum. That way you won't be wasting any freon dumping it into a leaking system.
Then you can recharge the system yourself using one of the kits available at your local parts store.

Please advise how to add freon to mitsubishi montero '01 air conditioner unit

The best thing i can tell you is to take it into a shop. You can add freon to a system but you need to know what kind your vehicle needs. If it takes the new current freon your in luck you can buy a recharge kit at any local parts store. If not you have a few options. You can get a conversion kit to change the system over to the new freon or you can try to find a shop that can recharge it with the older freon for your vehicle. Since its an 01 it should be the new freon but i cant be sure. There is a fitting with a cap on it on you AC Lines. should be 2 a red cap and a green cap. You remove the green cap and with the engine running attach a recharger bottle from the store and refill the system. Note the freon recharge kit will come with some instructions to always read them first. hope that helps good luck.

A/c is not cooling and how can i tell if the compressor is not working if I take it to be repair how much should I expect to pay for repairs without be reaped off.

The a/c may need to be recharged which is something you can purchase and do at home. You need to buy you a recharge kit that comes with the gauges $20 and hook the gauge up to the low side port and this will let you know if the freon is low, if it's says overcharged then there is something wrong somewhere else. A compressor is about $300+ and then $300+ for labor, then you have the freon and "shop" fees. So it could be on up around $800-$1000 depending on who does it. I would find someone with a test gauge first. If it is that the freon is low, you get the gauge and freon in the kit so you would be set. Usually the compressor will lock down or squeal like bearing going out. If it looks down it mostly likely will break your belt.

Where do I put the freon in my 2000 dodge caravan?

Freon is highly hazerdous to the environment - this system should only be recharged by a shop.

All of a sudden my A/C is throwing out hot air, what can it be

It's likely out of freon. Quick check is to remove the protective cap on the low side connection (near firewall) and depress the pin in the valve. You should see a milky-gray gas that indicates freon, if it's just air then the system needs recharging. A shop will charge around $100 to recharge the system. Make sure they put in some dye so that any leaks can be easily identified after recharge.

My A/C has stopped cooling. What type of coolant is used in this year and model? Can I recharge it myself and what would I expect to pay for the coolant?

It take's 134a freon, each can of freon runs about $5.00 to $6.00, you will more the likely, if empty will need two can's.You will recharge it at the low port side, sit on the accumulator, over by the passenger side, by the fire wall, cylinder looking with two a/c hoses connection's coming out of it.

A/C blowing but not cold

R-134 coolant - not called Freon anymore - also pick up a recharge kit with a guage - do not over charge system! Try AutoZone or Advance - expect to pay around $25. Also, make your own leak test fluid from dish detergent and water. Put sdolution arounf all A/C fittings - you should not see any bubbles. If you do, then there's a leak and recharging the system will not last.

AC air is only cool, how do you recharge the compressor?

You can buy a can or,refil kit of R-134-A at walmart however only put the freon in on the low side (read the directions) if the freon gas will not go in; run an 18 gauge wire from the battery to the compressor clutch switch to run the compressor if the freon gas still won't go in it must be evacuated and, recharged by a shop. only put in enough freon to get the system cold any more than that and, you will lose cooling again (over charge)

Freon leak in line lincoln continental 97

use 134A and you can put it in your self.. Just pay attention Only instal freon in the low side of your system.. low side is always the larger hose ... Got that ? larger .. small hose is high side is not not the place to put it in .. Find your largest air conditioner hose and follow it out till you find a port to put in freon .. which you can buy it and the hose at a walmart store..they do make a sealant also that will sometimes slow the loss of freon.. let me know if you need more.. jerry
