hey out there folks thank you Jeff and Karl ,...were grounded!.. I've got a bit of problem yet starting a 1993 c-1500 chevy pick up with a 4,3 motor, the pump is sending gas through the line but its not dumping fuel in the throttle body checked the in and out of the lines I believe I had them backwards,..looking at the unit I understand left is fuel in and right is a return?..I had primed the throttle body the other nite with a dash of fuel and it backfired causing a flame took about a 45secs. - a minute to smother out, had i possibly damage the injectors none of the wirings burnt or damaged please let me know once again what'cha think thank you, scott

No , i don't think that would hurt the injector !

Testimonial: "hello Jeff,..I had just recently removed the line from the fuel pump to the filter of the 1993 c-1500 with the 4.3 motor in it, short body truck. I had expected a greater pressure from the hose I had also removed the line from the line from the throttle body to the pump also expecting greater volumn and pressure at that point found minumal pressure and volumn. I then by-passed the fuel filter to the throttle body thinking possible plug of filter, though newer filter. NO START! with a primer..Just prior to this i had tested the relay all seems to be working as it should sending signal to the pump...I believe my pump loses prime and is not strong enuff to push up fuel to the throttle body fully, if at all in a sluggish manner. Ive decided to try another pump from my local salvage yard, my guy sends me most always good original parts for years now!..any thoughts? greatly appreciate your input,..thank you scott"

If it is the correct fuel pump - where it unplugged, it should just plug in where the old one did.

The new connector for the fuel pump 99 Chevy

One wire will be a common ground.  Depending on how much fuel you have in the tank you should receive a voltage from about 5 to 9 volts from the common ground to the fuel gauge - the other is the live to the Fuel Pump, typically - your 4 wire situation may be two grounds - one to each - put a fuse 10amp fuse in-line or disconnect the pigtail from tank and test for voltages and Zero resistance which would be the same as if you put both probes from your tester together and the meter shows "1" - if there is a problem or resistance then the reading will be "0" or the resistance value.  Be sure to use low Ohms setting or you may not get any reading.
This is of course - general info, from which should lead you to the answer you seek.
Good luck.
East Coast Canada Rocks!!!

Good luck.
There may be a ground that just connects to the tank itself - you can test for Ohms with a meter to determine if these are ground wires or must be determined.  Can check between negative to battery to

We are replacing the fuel filter in a 98 pontiac transport. The new wiring harness came with a purple, grey & 2 Black wires. The OE harness comes with purple, grey , black and a white/black. How do you...

Assuming you mean replacing the fuel PUMP, the 2 wires are different guages. Connect the lighter wire to the lighter wire and the heavier wire to the heavier wire. If the new harness uses both the same size wires, the heavier wire on the vehicle side (solid black) is for the fuel pump ground. Lighter wire is for fuel guage sending unit.

The wires should be grey, orange and black, purple, and a black wire. The purple goes to purple, grey to gray. The orange and black goes to the small black wire on your car harness and the black goes to the bigger black.
