SOURCE: 2002 ford explorer radio removal and installation procedure

You have to have special ford radio tools. they look like two horse shoes. they clip into the two holes on either side of the radio and then you push outwards and pull on the clips at the same time and the radio slides right out. the tools are usually inexpensive and can probably be found at local auto parts store

Not an easy job. Drop the steering column and remove the dash first. Then remove the plenum. Core is between the plenum and fire wall. Get a manual. Your saving hundreds doing it your self. 30 dollars for a manual is worth it.

2002 ford ranger Radio

You'll find that there are two "hot" leads going to the radio. There's a constant hot (which is used fot the clock and perhaps the memory) and another for radio power. If the latter is the case, physically check the fuse and see if it is blown. You say the radio has power, but no sound. How do you know the radio actually has power? Check the fuses first. If that's not the problem, there's a possibility that the output transistors have been fried, in which case a new radio will be the least expensive solution.
