SOURCE: OBD code 0401 (1997 Toyota Camry 4 cyl)

There is a VSV (vacuum switching valve) , usually mounted on the back side of engine block, under the intake manifold, as well as the map sensor, that can also cause that code if one or the other is faulty. It takes some pretty detailed troubleshooting to confirm this in some cases, so if that's not in your line of work, you may have to have it properly diagnosed, or take a 50/50 shot at which one first.

First did you reset the computer after replacing the EGR valve if you don't the computer doe'nt reconize the new sensor so it doe'nt reset the peremiters. Then check all passages and lines in the intake manifold there could be a clogg somewhere.Go to www.rockauto.com and you'll find EGR pressure sensor for under $30.00.

onestly, your best bet is to replace the valve if nor mistaking it comes with the sensor, make sure pasages are not blocked, start the car with out the egr it will go up and down rpm and will be noisy if egr pipe is not blocked

SOURCE: 1989 Toyota truck has EGR valve vacuum lines mixed up. No vacuum on the hoses connected to the EGR valve. R22 engine.

Leave the EGR disconnected and if any problems make a blocking gasket from a coca cola can to seal it off .This will not affect the engines performance ,did older cars have this valve??

A common problem for egr failures are the modulator valves, the valve is attached directly to the egr valve, it's a round plastic housing with three vacuum lines on it, try replacing this valve.

Our 97 camry check enginlight is on shop says code is for the erg valve, it does not look that hard to change should i just change the valve with the hoses or the whole unit?

Try to change the egr valve, the part with the hose connected to it. That's, of course, that if the egr solenoid is working correctly. Be sure to clean the carbon out of the recess hole that the egr valve pintle goes into.

Good luck on this repair.

Insufficient air flow The EGR valve has been changed twice, but the engine light (401 code, EGR) stills come on what else could this be?

there's a solenoid under the intake manifold which has vacuum hose connects to egr valve. this solenoid is having a lot of problem.

1999 toyota RV4 code P0401 EGR is good ,   vacuum line is good , what parts could be check.

It means that the egr valve is working, the problem is a very common one, it's the egr modulator valve and to some extent the vacuum switching valve(VSV) for the egr valve, the modulator is attached to the egr valve, remove it and if air can pass from the bottom port through it is defective, in that case replace it and see if it takes care of the problem, if the valve is ok the egr
vsv should be replaced.
