If it just an overflow bottle, replace radiator cap, its not building neg pressure on cooldown

My radiator hose is collapsing and what will cause the problem?

excessive vacuum being caused on cool down by radiator cap not functioning and allowing coolant to be drawn back from the reservoir
or blocked pinched hose from the reservoir

Coolant leaking out of reservoir and radiator. I have to fill tank once a week. The radiator seems to be full when checked cold.

replace the faulty reservoir or radiator
what is happening is that the radiator cap is not raising the pressure in the cooling system because of a leak in the system
the excess water from heating is being pushed out probably onto the ground through the leak
when the cooling system cools down , water is being drawn back into the radiator
probably find a crack in the radiator tank that opens under pressure but seal off as the pressure is lost

What would cause antifreeze to come out of the overflow of the reservoir?

Remove radiator cap when car is completely cold. Refill radiator look to see circulation when cap starts turn heater high. When thermostat opens water will be drawn from overflow into radiator. If this does not occur faulty thermostat is probable cause if no circulation change water pump. Refill water to correct levels and car should run correctly

Toyota tazz starting to use water no water leaks about 1 litre in about 2 to 3 weeeks

replace the thermostat as it is essential for correct operation. Have a pressure test done on the coolant system and check for leaks in the radiator --rear and sides of the engine and in the cabin around the heater core.. Check radiator cap as it may not be operation correctly and allowing the water to be drawn back into the radiator on cooling down. Check the hose from the reservoir back to the radiator cap as if it is cracked or broken the water will not be drawn back to replace what was pushed out when hot. Have a compression test done to check for gasket and head cracks.

So I have a honda civic 1998 ex, and my fuel meter is jumping up and down , sometime itll be on empty and itll be half way, how do i change that? and im not sure if its normal but every time i pour coolant...

It is normal for the reservoir to get more water after the car has been running as the water expands when hot and runs out to the reservoir. However when the engine cools down the excess water in the reservoir should be drawn back into the radiator.. have a pressure test done on the cooling system to check for leaks. Have a compression test done to check for head gasket and cracked head problems. Get the fan to work as that may be why you are putting more water in the reservoir because the engine is close to over heating.. As to the fuel gauge I would replace the tank sender unit.

Beetle cooling

there will be no flow rate to the reservoir at all because the reservoir is only there to collect and excess coolant that is ejected after the water expansion from heat has overcome the setting of the radiator cap. The reverse of this is when the system cools down a vacuum is created in the radiator and a another valve opens allowing water to be drawn from the reservoir to keep the radiator full.. If you have a flow from the radiator when the engine is running check for failed cap or have a compression test done to check for blown head gasket or cracked head

Coling light is on after being filled

The light sensor is in the radiator tank. When cool remove the radiator cap and fill radiator to top. It is possible that the radiator cap is faulty and not allowing water to be drawn back from the reservoir. .Check for leaks by having a cooling system pressure test done

Coolant reservoir is full and radiator is empty why is it not circulating?

Hi Tiffany,

The engine coolant does not "circulate" through the reservoir in your Jeep. This system works on the fact that things expand when they are hot and contract when they are cold. When the radiator is full, the coolant expands when the engine gets hot and the overflow runs down the small hose to the reservoir. When you shut the engine off, the coolant contracts and a vacuum is created inside the radiator causing fluid to be drawn out of the reservoir and into the radiator. When you start your engine and it gets hot, the cycle begins again.

If the radiator is empty, this sytem cannot work. There will not be enough vacuum generated in the radiator to draw the fluid from the reservoir (too much empty space and not enough coolant contracting as it cools).

You need to find out WHY the radiator is low. If it is low, there is a reason for it. Either something is leaking EXTERNALLY like a hose or water pump, or something is leaking INTERNALLY like a blown head gasket or a cracked cylinder head. Proper diagnosis is recommended.

Radiator hose calasp when engine is coldbut will open up when engine is hot or warm

Check your coolant overflow reservoir, Is coolant at the minimum line. When the engine heats up is coolant added to the reservoir, and when the engine cools down is coolant drawn from it. Try replacing the radiator cap first.

What I am thinking the problem is the radiator cap isnt allowing coolant to return to the system when it cools off.
