Your plug wires should be good, your truck isn't that old. When it gets in the 8 to 10 years old category, consider plug wires and Oxygen sensor(s). NGK also makes fine Irdium plugs, oxygen sensors, and plug wires for your truck too. Depending on what you carry int he back of your truck, rear shocks usually go bad first and are easiest to replace DIY. From what I have heard, your truck is made by Mazda and rebadged as a Ford. This may help you find better parts for it, if you plan of keeping it a long time. The very best Japanese shocks are made by Tokiko and next are KYB. Monotube shocks are much better for driving on the road and cheaper dual piston shocks and struts are what came on the truck. I want to repeat, you don't need wires unless they really have taken a beating, your truck is relatively new. If you ever change yoru plug wires, NAPA's are excellent as they are made for them by Belden, the very finest we have in the US and they cost less than most others.

There are 4 and the plugs should come gaped but the gap is 0.049 to 0.053 in or 1.25 to 1.35 mm and I would use Plugs AGSF32FEC

0.044", IT16 Denso Iridium Spark Plugs are the best for your truck... they last 60K miles on average, save gas and add power.
Use thread antisieze lube on the first 2 to 3 three threads of the spark plug, it makes it easier to remove them in 5 or 6 years time. Check your plug wires one at a time too for signs of wear and cracking at the boots. A peak inside the distributor cap is also a good practice... any black carbon deposits at the electrodes is a sign it needs replacing along with the rotor. Your truck has a 2.3 liter, 4 cylinder engine.

What is the spark plug gap for a 1996 Ford Ranger 3.0? When purchasing the plugs I was informed it was .44. but I am getting a slight back fire when engine is running.

0.042-0.046 is the correct gap for your spark plugs,If it is backfiring now and was not before make sure you were not sold platinum bosch plugs and if you are using factory plugs, then I be looking for a faulty spark plug. Also make sure the firing order is correct.ramundoo_2.gif
