Question about 2006 Chrysler Town & Country
We charged the a/c and found a leak from a black box located behind the rear passenger tire. I have no idea what the black box is and when I called the service department at the dealership, He told me I was crazy, there was nothing there relating to the air conditioning. However, when we charged the a/c, there was no mistaking where it was coming from - unless there is a line behind it that we couldn't see...
Service told me to bring it in so they could see what I was talking about, but for them to look at it, they wanted $90 up front. Highway robbery! I want to know what the black box is.
Sounds like a cracked evaporation canister on the rear a/c.
The service writer at the dealership you contacted has one function at the dealership, to make money. They would like to do a diagnostic on your vehicle so that they have an opportunity to sell you service on the items that are bad. Most of them have no experience as a mechanic. firstname.lastname@example.org if you have any direct questions. Please leave me good feedback if you feel I helped you. Regards, AL
Sometimes though it may be worth it to pay a diagnostic fee rather than just spending money on parts. Part replacements to fix an undiagnosed problem can get expensive. The good news is that if your problem is the evap canister it is a cheaper fix than the compressor.
